Have FS's always been the standard in grading Jefferson nickels?

 

Depends on what you mean by FS! Full strikes, "yes"! Full steps, "no"!

Buy yourself the book, "The Jefferson Nickel Analyst" by Bern Nagengast.

If you or anyone else had the chance to talk with a veteran FS Jefferson nickel collector with 20+ years in their collection and have seen their collections, they would tell you the same thing, it's all about strikes! NGC nor PCGS have yet to read and follow the instructions listed in that book!

What I believe we're seeing today is the augmenting of the collector base for FS Jefferson nickels! When that is complete, we'll see a more demanding grading system.

Leo beat me to it-----FS for Full Strike or FS for Full (or Five) Steps, but he forgot FS for Fivaz-Stanton!!! 27_laughing.gif

 

And now that I think about it, it makes more sense to use the FS for five steps then full steps now that NGC (as well as all other TPGs) requires 5 for the full attribute. Then you could have SS labels for six steps!

 

Yea, like that will ever happen!

Whoops, I should of been more specific. I was referring to "full steps". It seems "full steps" has become quite the thing now with Jeff's, and I didn't know if its always been that way, or I had just been missing it.

Pcgs and a number of folks over there are the ones who have been missing it!

With all these fantasy coins pcgs has been churning out! And in turn, we have people adding them to their registry sets, playing make believe games that they have nice full step nickels!! 27_laughing.gif Thanks for getting at my ire! Probably not your intentions but that's ok. insane.gif
