Identifying a coin

3 posts in this topic

I have a coin, nickel colored, about the size of a half dollar. It has what seems to be Arabic writings on it. One side has two small crossed sabers under a small palm tree, the other has what seems to be a number in the center, a backwards 7, then four numbers under it. both sides have a lot of what seems to be middle eastern writings. The rim also has ridges on it. Any thoughts? Maybe Turkish?

Sounds like a Saudi Arabian 2 Ghirsh KM41, except it's just a little bigger than a quarter. They were only made two years, AH1376 (1956) and AH1379 (1959). The date is the four numbers under the backwards 7 (this is a 2). It will look like a 1: backwards 7 with 3 bumps at the top (3): V: and sort of like a 7 for AH1376. AH1379 is the same except the last digit is actually a 9. screwy.gif
