I think this 1892 Barber quarter barely qualifies as naturally toned. Your opinion please?

Thanks for your help.

I like it, but I agree that the toning is a little shady, no pun intended. I will assume it's raw at this point, and I think it is market acceptable. With the difficulty in finding nice problem free Barber coins......I think this coin would make a nice addition to a collection........are you going to tell us the price or do you have it on Ebay??? confused-smiley-013.gif

From what I can see on my monitor the coin appears to be simply an unattractive brown color. There is nothing there that would suggest artificial toning to me, based only upon the single set of image that you provided. Similarly, there is nothing in those images that suggests an attractive coin. Does the coin look significantly different in-hand?

I hadn't intended to certify it since I only value it at about $90 - not enough to justify certification costs. It is on eBay.

Tom, the images are accurate. It doesn't appear particularly better or worse in hand, other than to say it is sharply struck, and it has a ring of iridescence that's a tad more pronounced in-hand. With this much detail remaining, it's the lack of luster that had me concerned.

PS: I do not own the coin; it is consigned to me specifically for sale on eBay.

The coin looks like several silver pieces I once had described to me as retoned from a previous cleaning. (Those were bust halves.) If the coin lacks hairlines, then perhaps it was dipped years ago and has retoned since.
