1887 dime?

9 posts in this topic

I don't think that is the case, but you're right, it is a very common date in high UNC grades. I have on that was cracked out of an NGC MS-63 holder (looks MUCH nicer) for my personal type set, but I've probably bought and sold half a dozen UNCs in the past three or four years. As in many series, there are just certain dates that seem to have a lot of high-grade coins.

Thanks for replies. You both may be right...it's common date. But looking through the preview of upcoming Heritage Bullet sale , I noticed they will auction 7 coins of this date all at once....... 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

I also checked their auction archive...here's the number of mint state 1887 dimes they sold in a past few years.

2001-8

2002-13

2003-9

and in 2004, they have already sold 31 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

Thanks for the info, Michael. I hadn't heard of that roll. I think my coin must not have come from a roll, as it is completely bathed in neon blue color, which is unlikely to occur with a coin in a roll.

The SL Dime date that I have seen most often through the years is the 1891 which makes sense, based on NGC pops. This many SL (same date) coins at once, in one auction, is odd though. They may be the remains of a roll.
