Want to see a MS69 Jefferson nickel!

9 posts in this topic

Here is a 1996-D Jefferson nickel that I believe would easily grade MS69! This coin is extremely prooflike, EDS and for the exception of one little tick by the mouth this coin is perfection! It has been a very difficult coin to photograph. Enjoy the picture. By the way, I'll never have this coin certified! The thought of someone mishandling it, damageing the coin will always haunt me from doing so!Besides, I have another in an ANACS MS67 holder that's almost just as nice. Burrs of metal can be seen all around the rim of this near perfect coin! How it survived the minting process and it's journey to me acclaim.gif in this condition defies one of Murphy's law, whatever that is! 27_laughing.gif

KOJ,

I know you are really tough on marks on coins. Would you really grade this one 69? My eye was drawn to the tick immediately. Just wondering.

And it's two-headed to boot! 893whatthe.gif

Good one! 27_laughing.gif

The lower pic was shot in an angle that will show any marks on the coin.

But what criterias would it take to get a regular business strike coin in a MS69 holder? This coin has two extras, EDS strike and prooflike! It's virtually impossible to see that mark when viewing this coin through it's mirrors and radiant brilliance!

This coin can only be compared to the 1994-P and 1997-P SMS Jefferson nickels.

I have a MS69 SMS 94-P that has one tiny mark on one of the pillars keeping it out of the MS70 holder. Is it possible that this coin was strucked on a proof planchet and handled as such, it's that nice!

What's that behind the coin in the first image? Is that a piece of gum you stuck to the reverse to keep the coin steady? 893scratchchin-thumb.gif By the way, it looks like a nice Jefferson, though it seems to be overlit.

Tom

That's my little pedestal that I used to use to help hold the coin up from the felt background when taking pictures. I was trying to create a fuzzy background look in the pictures of my coins. It really turned out to be a hassle doing it that way. 27_laughing.gif

I sawed one of those short lincoln logs in half and that's what it is. laugh.gif

Ok, I lied! But I am man enough to admit, it's not a full step nickel! 27_laughing.gif27_laughing.gif27_laughing.gif

Man I hope Mitch and Mark doesn't see this post! screwy.gif

Seriously folks, I took the koin back out to take another pic but forget it! There are a couple of more marks on the blessed thing so it has been humorously downgraded to a MS67 coin but prooflike and EDS, without a doubt! acclaim.gif
