I just ordered this last night and sent payment this afternoon. It was confirmed that it was still in stock so, I`ll be getting it in the next couple of weeks. laugh.gif This is my first Trade Dollar and wanted something " new " as I have a number of Morgans, Peace, and Ikes. Now it`s a little more " complete ". laugh.gif

It`s graded by NGC as XF45. I tend to look for coins on the lower end of the money spectrum ( never broke the $300 mark yet and only for something " special " ). The colors looks pretty good too. What I like about it is not only the toning but, I like the " look " of it and the strike looks good and fairly even wear. I bought it from here: https://www.northeastcoin.com/index.jsp . I never tried these guys before. There was someone across the street that picked - up some nice Peace Toners recently and thought I`ll give them a try.

That`s pretty cool. grin.gif Frattlaw pointed the site out last week across the street. The Peace Dollar toners he showed along with a link was some good material. So I figured they`re a good place to go if he pointed it out.

I wanted something outside of the " Morgan/Peace/Ike " realm. I was certainly quite surprised how nice it looks and at a decent price too!

I like circulated Trade dollars as I think the design wears very well, unlike some coins like Washington quarters and Roosevelt dimes, and I also think that for their relative "coolness factor" that they provide a lot of coin for the buying dollar. thumbsup2.gif

Boy, that coin has a lot of detail for a 45!

I agree. The obverse looks at least AU 50 to me. I can see how the obverse would go 45, however.

I also agree that trade dollars wear nicely and many circulated examples look far better than hairlined ms specimens.

But my opinions are just a fart in the wind compared to John Maben's time and experience in the hobby.

This just came in today. I don`t have a digital so a scan has to do. frown.gif

In hand and looking at it straight on, it looks like your typical gold/grey coin of the time period. When tilted, I can see the nice, light toning on both sides. A bluish tone on the reverse and a near rainbow on the obverse. I consider it a keeper. smile.gif
