Medieval or Byzantine coins that depict the "Holy Grail"?

I think King Arthur has it in his hand on this coin:

Probably not what you had in mind, but I'm still looking for a real coin with the grail.

TomB's got it.

It's mostly the modern commemorative coins but includes the bullion issues as well. Certain, usually small, countries like the Isle of Man, Liberia, Bermuda and the Soloman Islands release series after series of coins commemorating things such as windsurfing, Harry Potter or Bob Marley. The worst offenders also have gimmicks like holograms, wierds shapes or odd-ball denominations.

A pox on all of it. tonofbricks.gif

Ah, much like the recent "freedom" coin I was seeing on TV that was "Official Government Issue" coinage commerating 9-11. That catch was they didn't say which Government issued it.

Some of these items are actually very beautiful. This coin is easily as beautiful as a Seated Liberty coin.

As I recall you were not a big fan of Seated Liberty coinage, which may lend some insight into your comparison to that awful Tonga "coin".

You got it. I think that one was from the Marshall Islands.

Hey JJ, I remember that the U.S. Governement (perhaps the mint), even did a press release in regards to those "freedom" coins, saying don't be duped. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for free enterprise, but to blatently try to mislead is wrong.

I remember that too. I think the deal there was that the issuing territory was a US dependancy which did not have the right to issue legal tender coins.

And as I recall nor did they have the right to issue legal tough coins.
