Has anybody bought raw coins from this dealer?

His name is Ken Madison from St. Pete Bch FL. I know he is legit, because I bought a few 1982 50 cent Washington Pf commens from him a few months ago without a problem. I'm wondering about the raw Morgans, Walkers, etc. He usually has a 2 page ad in a coin periodical like Coinage and his inventory is quite extensive. The grading is done in letters i.e. CH BU etc. He doesn't have email, or a website. Thanks,

I definitely learned my lesson the hard way with ChBU, Gem BU and GemBUPQ. Most I bought were either cleaned and dipped in some fashion. Those that weren't were 62 or 63. I'm going to call this dealer and order something in the AU grade. The price list I get in the mail from him since ordering the 1982 commen is four times his two pg ad. and small print, listed in columns from half cents through Sacs and commens old new, He's even got BU rolls of 1955 Bugs 50 cent listed.

Choice BU are less than Gem coins. They might have been cleaned or might have a slight rub that could cause them to grade AU. If you are good at detecting those things and there is a return policy then I don't see much of a problem. I haven't ordered from the person you mention, but the times I have ordered CH BU coins from other 2 page ads I've ended up with AU coins frown.gif

He lives only a few miles away from me(Gulfport).But I've never met him or done business with him.I don't think he gets out to the St. Petersburg club's coin show and he doesn't have a shop.

I'll get a hold of a few of my local coin buddies and find out about him.
