A wonderfully toned Norfolk!

I recieved this delightful Norfolk in the mail today. It is graded MS-67* by NGC.

From a technical standpoint it is a very high end coin. It has a very strong strike, exceptional luster, and there are absolutely no marks visible to the naked eye on either the obverse or reverse. Even when viewed with a 7x loupe there are no marks worth mentioning.

It is this coin’s eye appeal however that makes it something really special. The centers of the coin are blast white, while the rims are toned in lime green, changing to red gold and then to light gold as the color moves in closer to the centers. The colors are iridescent, and are much nicer than they appear in the image, the green in particular. Also while the edges of the rims have areas that appear to be black in the image, in person they are not, this is just an artifact of the scan.

According to NGC’s current census report (9/03/04) it is one of only 10 Norfolk commems to be give the ‘*’ for exceptional eye appeal in all grades combined!

By far the best looking Norfolk I have ever seen....................you've got yourself a real winner there.

That coin could be the center piece of a lot of collection including my own 893applaud-thumb.gif

From Pinnacle??? Looks like the one on their site for $1200+....if so, very good value for what you paid. Clearly in the top 2 percent of all 67s. Would cost you BIG BUCKS for a better one. 893applaud-thumb.gif

Norfolks do come with exceptional appeal. If you ever have the opportunity look up the Larry Shepard sale, or the Rothenberger sale. Probably two of the finest around. Think Larry's coin is in a 69 holder, but it might be ICG. smile.gif

That is THE finest looking early commem I've ever seen John! And it is precisely why I've given up on my idea to start into this series. Can't afford what I want and don't like what I can afford!

P.S. If you need a nice place to store your commems, check my thread in the marketplace. HINT--HINT!!!!

Thanks for the comments guys!

Rainbowroosie & Tom, Yes, this is the coin that Pinnacle had on their web site. There is a funny story about how I wound up getting it.

I had seen the listing for it the first day Pinnacle listed it on their web site, but for some reason the image would not come up. frown.gif I kept on checking, and after a day or so the image finally came up when I clicked on it. This was last Saturday. Pinnacle was closed on Sat. & Sun., so I had to wait until Monday to call them about the coin.

I called as soon as they opened on Monday and they said that the coin was on hold. Man, was I mad! 893frustrated.gif

On Thursday I had some time and was checking web sites again and I noticed that Pinnacle still had the Norfolk listed on their site. I called them to find out what was going on with the coin and they said it was available again! 893whatthe.gif I asked what happened and they said that the person who they were holding it for decided that they were no longer interested in it. Man, was I glad! 893applaud-thumb.gifheadbang.gif

Tom, Thank you again for pushing me into that Delaware! I sill can't get over that coin! As for becoming more of a toning freak, I guess my preference for toned buffalo's is starting to affect my overall collecting habits! grin.gif Actually, as you know, I have always liked wonderfully toned coins, I just don't like paying an outrageous premium for them! Anytime I can buy a nicely toned coin without paying an arm or a leg for it, I'm game! wink.gif

Hoot, I feel the same way about your buff's! You have a number of coins in your buffalo set that I would be ecstatic to own. cloud9.gif

That's a terrific story about that coin, John. I can't believe someone backed out of it!

Yeah Tom, I could not believe it either. It made me ask a lot of questions about how the coin looked before I told them to send it to me, but it was everything that Pinnacle said it was once I received it. cloud9.gif

Rainbowroosie, Here are the images of the Delaware that Tom & Jeremy let me know about at a local show. The colors are much more vibrant in person. It’s a way cool coin that nearly started a riot at the show as people began making offers to buy it from me! 893whatthe.gif

And if you think am kidding, just ask Tom.

John's got to let me take that Delaware home so I can take a real picture of it--my only shot (pardon the pun) was at a coin show where I couldn't get decent lighting...

That is one of the nicest coins I've seen--end period.
