Non slabbers, how do you display/store?

2x2 cardboard? 2x2 flips? 2x2 envelopes? If you are a flip user, like myself, how do you store them? Do you put the flips in the vinyl pages for use with binders? I'm looking for suggestions.

If you are looking for a method to display your Crusader coins, then I don't know that I can offer much advice. For US coins, however, I keep my Barber half series in a pair of Library of Coins albums and I keep my Washington quarter series in a pair of Capital Plastics holders. Individual coins fit quite well in Kointains.

Thanks Tom. I found some of those Safe T flips you were talking about. I'm going to use those, which will work out well so I can write info/attribution on the flip inserts. I'm assuming they make vinyl pages (for binders) that I can insert those flips in to store and display them. Much like people use for cardboard 2x2's. I'm pretty sure that would be the best bet for me, but thought someone might have a better idea. I know many people prefer 2x2 cardboard over the flips, but I've never been a fan of the cardboard 2x2's for some reason.

Thing, what "Safe T" flips? I don't see that in Tom's reply.

"vinyl pages" = PVC = the green slime = death to your coins! 27_laughing.gif

Avoid the so called plasterized stuff as well!

Do a search on "coin supplies" and learn what's all available, you'll be amazed on what's available.

Also note, vinyl will also ruin your love life! laugh.gif

I keep much of my loose change in Intercept Shield, Dansco, Whitman, and Wayte Raymond albums (or in me pocket!). 893scratchchin-thumb.gif I keep the rest in mylar flips. I don't like the bulk of the cardboard/mylar flips, but in the long-term, they may be best. (Most people put the stapes too close to the coin, which can be reactive in addition to or with the carboard.)

I know. My coins are in Safe T flips i.e. NO PVC. I was talking about storage for the FLIPS, not coins. thumbsup2.gif

I personally like using the 2X2 flips then storing them in 20 pocket 3 ring binder pages. Used to use cardboard, but scratched a PR68C/DC half once with the staple when taking it out for a pic. THAT will never happen again. I know they now make staple-less 2X2 cardboard flips with a sticky backing, but still not as easy storing/displaying/accessing.

I have three levels of inventory, and at shows, these get broken out into three or four cases. I usually have a case of encapsulated coins. Those are generally my high-end coins. Then, I'll have a case of low-end coins, the really cheap (sometimes damaged or cleaned) stuff. These I store in simple 2x2 flips. Finally, what I consider my really GOOD stuff, generally the early coins with lettered edges that most collectors prefer un-encapsulated, I store in Eagle brand coin holders. These are, in my opinion, the best and most attractive holders on the market, and they are completely safe for your coins.

What's nice about eagle holders is that they are the exact size of 2x2 flips, and fit neatly into the same boxes. I don't use vinyl pages anymore - too hard to see the coins. My entire inventory fits neatly into one suitcase, slabs and all.

At really big shows, I will sometimes have a fourth case that has non-holdered coins. These will be the most special coins I have (sometimes on loan), that deserve to be presented without the encumbrance of ANY holder!

I have a strong preference for coins not in slabs, probably 80% of my inventory. Nothing beats a display of JUST coins. No slabs, no holders, JUST coins!

i have most of the beasties in 2x2s, a few in the flips because that's the way i got them, some in the harris folders, and a couple in the single coin capitol holders. my 19th-20th century and 20th century sets are in the capitol holders. i think i kinda wanna move to flips so i can get to the coins easier - i just love to hold them...
