Two Austrian Ecclesiastic Thalers: A Producive Day on E-Bay

Having not added another thaler to my collection in a while on e-bay I won not one but two new thalers. Both are from bishoprics which were parts of the HRE.

Here's the first, a 1639 thaler from Salzburg:

This is one of the more common designs, but since I liked the rim toning quite a bit why not grab this one.

The second is from Olmutz , the capital of Moravia:

I've been looking for one of these for a while as I really dig the reverse.

I'm a little frightened by the seller being in Slovenia, but he has delivered 700+ lots so hopefully he's on the level. On the flip side I did receive a "scary seller discount".

Thing, could you stick to the subject of ecclesiastic thalers? I'd hate to see you outside looking in on this forum too. Thx bud.

OK, will do. TJ, didn't your thaler used to be ecclesiastic? Did the viagra take care of that little (and I mean little) problem? 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

The Salzburg one is going to look awesome in person. Perhaps I'll find an equally super one at Long Beach.

They look superb, and I agree with Greg that the Salzburg piece could look fantastic in person. smile.gif

Here's the image of the coin in hand:

When buying I thought the "money" side of the coin would be the reverse with a nice rim toned look and the obverse would be OK but a bit dark. I was right about the rim toned reverse, but the obverse turned out to be absolutely beautiful. The blues, purples just leap off the coin and the hints of green provide a lovely contrast.
