Lewis and Clark w/ handmade bag...worth it?

2 posts in this topic

I saw the crazy run up after the coin and currency sets were released and am a bit wary of the sept 16 release of the coin with the "handmade bag." Anyone think its worth the investment to buy a couple to resell, or are these a marketing ploy?

Hi Jill,

A couple of things to note about your question.

1) It is a limited edition to no more then 50,000 and maybe less depending on the pouches made for this product.

2) You can buy the proof dollar for $39.95 from the mint (limited to 500,000 coins) so you're basically paying another $80.00 for the pouch and the display.

3) As each and every pouch is different from all the others, they and not the coin, will be the driving force of any premium realized when sold to a third party. The craftmanship and the individual design for them will either be attractive or so-so in the eyes of the owner/buyer.

4) Time has shown that almost all limited edition coin/coins/sets etc. from the mint have appreciated over time.

So to answer your question, I personally will not buy any but I don't think it a bad investment were you to order 3 (1 to keep and 2 to sell after the mint is sold out).

David
