During the War of the Diadochs (315-311 BC), Antiogonos I Monophthalmos sent his nephew Ptolemaios to Greece, where he formed an alliance with anti-Macedonian factions in various city-states. Ptolemaios was successful in uniting these factions into a single revolt against Kassander, and effectively wrested most of Greece from Macedonian control. His effort began in Boiotia and Euboia, where this particular coinage was struck, likely to help finance the anti-Macedonian cause. The actions of Ptolemaios and his mercenaries succeeded in tieing-up Kassander’s forces during this war, and enabled Antigonos to focus his own efforts against the other Diadochoi allied against him.

Yes, his Kung Fu Death Grip Attack aka banning the_Thing from the W.C. has made me see the light. But please, Mr. Jenning's, let try to follow the forum rules and keep this thead on the subject. Do YOU own any world coins?

I have a poop-load of world coins, no ancients, since my parents threw out my Constantine coin that I had since 1963, but my dad was in the S. Pacific during WWII and brought back several fine examples from that region, plus I have some nice French and Prussian examples. (I have to go BBQ now, will check back intermittently.)

TRIVIA (that I don't know the answer to). What is the most expensive "World" coin ever sold at auction? 893scratchchin-thumb.gif The winner of the trivia will receive one full body massage from an oil covered bikini clad TJ.

If my memory serves me correctly, wasn't someone in Prussia assassinated and it let to WWI?
Actually it was Archduke Franz Ferdinand of the Austro-Hungarian Empire who was assassinated in Sarejevo. Check out this interesting historical site for the details. grin.gif

What was once the kindom of Prussia is currently divided between the German Federal state of Brandenburg and Western Poland.

The guy on the coin is actually German, he's Holy Roman Emperor Maximillian. cloud9.gif

His coins are tough in any grade which is why I'd like, but can't afford, to add him to my collection.

The description is written in French as the auction house is located in Belgium. They also offer lots of ancient and medieval coins. If you sign up on their website they'll send you a few copies of their catalogs (nice pictures).
