Need help with an 1863-s half dime

11 posts in this topic

Picked up an 1863-s half dime this past weekend, and the mintmark is repunched to the east. No mention of this in the Blythe half dime book, or Breen's. Does this ring a bell with anyone? Thanks. smile.gif

Well, this coin, as well as a little lot of toned bust half dimes is off to NGC as we speak. When I get the coins back, I'll persue finding out more concerning the '63-s. smile.gif I've been given a couple of contacts that should be able to help me out, if they see the coin.

I have the results on this coin, ngc ms/62, just waiting to have ngc ship it back to me. Once I get it back, I'm going to see if anyone can help with the repunched mint mark. smile.gif

Damn Darin! I hate to see you talking to yourself so much! laugh.gif I wish I could help but know nothing about the series. Did NGC provide an attribution for the coin?

I'm used to it Hoot! smile.gif It's tough to find anyone who collects these things serious enough to know all the funny stuff about the series. I like 'em, and collect 'em pretty hard, but I'm not big on variety stuff. Most likely will turn out to be absolutely nothing, but worth persuing at this point.

Oh yes, I inquired about NGC attributing the coin, and they didn't have anything listed for a repunched mintmark on this date, so they wouldn't list it.

Hey Taro! Once I get the coin back, I'll try to post a pic here. I think I may have worked out how to post a pic on this board. I experimented a week or so ago, and it worked. Now I just have to remember what I did. Still no go on the pcgs site. Funny working with these Mac's sometimes smile.gif Stephen Crain should be in Boston for the Bay State show, so I'll be able to show him the coin then, as long as I receive the coin back from NGC by then. I should.
