I was look at some coins today and there were a bunch of coins from different grading companies. I think some holders look better than others. What do all of you think?

If I've left a company out let me know and I'll add it.

hmmm well its hard to say. I like the size of the ANACS slab, especially for Morgans. For smaller coins I like the clear look of the PCGS slab, since it doesnt take away from the coin. But I have been getting a bunch of NGC roosevelts lately, and am really liking the look the have with them, so umm is there an all of the above option? wink.gifgrin.gif

It really depends on the coin, for gold, I really like the look of the ICG holders with the black intercept insert, since it really sets off the look of the coin. For silver dollars, I like PCGS, and for smaller coins I like ANACS, and for copper, I like the contrast with the white holders you get from ANACS and NGC. Decisions decisions! tongue.gif

I agree with what jtryka wrote! I like larger silver coins in PCGS(they just don't look good in white holders, smaller silver coins in ANACS because the holder is smaller and the coin doesn't get lost(PCGS will do in this case also), copper in a white holder, and gold against a black holder, although white will do.

As might some other folks here, I'd vote ICG/Intercept if there were a separate category for gold coins. The black Intercept Shield insert looks great surrounding the coin, and I like Intercept Shield for storage in any event.

Otherwise, I prefer the NGC holder's clean simplicity. As others have said in separate threads on this board, an optional black insert (perhaps restricted to certain coin types only, such as gold) would be super.

The ACG holder strikes me as truly cheesy - for some reason the ACG always looks misplaced, and the label as a whole looks like it was produced on someone's dingy old copying machine. The ANACS holder is nice along the same clean lines as NGC's.

Thanks for the poll!

I voted for NGC. I like the look of the white against the coins. The only bad thing about NGC slabs is that the inert is so thick that on small proof coins, such as dimes you can see the holder reflected in the coin. A few days ago I bought my first PCGS slab. What tells you that NGC holders are better than PCGS holders is that NGC slabs fit on top of PCGS slabs, but PCGS slabs do not fit on top of NGC slabs.

i like the look of the segs holders the best with ngc/pcgs very close!

i think the best holders are the icg holders as they look great and are smaller and more compact which is better

but icg wins hands down as with the new black incert intercept shields they are the best of the best and offer the most safest protection for coins!

and the black shows off amny cioins great but even with darker coins i like the intercept protection

too bad pcgs and ngc doesnot offer this

intercept tech but i am not that expert or familiar with it so maybe i am missing something

i know a friend whom was using the intercept tech 6 years aho before it was popular or any one heard of it he would get the slabs and put them into intercept shield bags that fit pcgs/ngc slabs snugly and have an airtight tight zippered zip and also are impreginated both sides for a ten year intercept protection gaurantee so i guess he still has the best of both worlds the pcgs/ngc holders and then the bag around them!

Although I prefer NGC first followed by PCGS, the NTC slab isn't bad. I agree with a previous post that ACG is extremely cheesy and is mismatched with other slabs.

I like the basic shape of the ICG slab becuase it is interesting, but the plastic is too easily scratched, and the green label is very tacky.

PCGS slabs give off too much glare when you rock the coin around, otherwise I like the look of them. Although, they are easily scratched, and the clear plastic is distracting and often defective, too.

NGC's slab has a very solid feel when you are holding it, and becuase it is opaque, I'm not distracted by looking through the clear plastic. It doesn't give off as much glare either. Also, I like the fact that is is AT.

Although the ANACS slab is very simple, I think it is very pleasing overall. It is small and does not overwhelm little coins. But it is small and big coins look out of place. Also, the small holder doesn't store well with the larger slabs.

I voted for NGC.

My favorite in terms of appearance is ANACS. The white background presents the coin well and the small size makes the coin stand out more. I have found that about twice as many ANACS slabs will fit in a safe deposit box as is true of the other major brands.

I like the PCGS and the NEW NGC as I can read the grade a lot easier than before and the new Holigram makes it look more modern. I like the IGC holder but the numbers on the label seem to be blurred at times especially when it comes to the numbers 8 and 6. ANACS is kind of hard to read and Plain. The NTC is OK and AGC just seems to be not real. PCI is also Plain.

NTC

good size

bright white and bright gold pieces look great against the green background color

I think someone should start a process where specific denominations are put with a certain color filler. ex. 1 cent, white, 5 cents, blue, 10 cents, red.....etc....

I don't like the cosmetic look of any of them. They all look too mundane. The black intercept shields going into ICG holders bring a glamour out of some coins. Does ICG give you a choice of white or black? I would also like to see NGC develope a round holder. The cicumference and depth could be worked out so you could put the info on a one line strip that goes around the edge. I'd like to see $10 gold Indians, with a dark blue or dark burgandy foam in a round, certified, NGC holder. Would putting different color into the foam be harmful to the coin? But defintely a round holder with either black or white foam with the info around the edge and nothing on the front or back.

For size it would have to be ANACS. I recently came across a coin on Yahoo auctions that was described as ANACS. When I looked at the picture I saw the observse had ANA OFFICIAL GRADE, and the reverse had both the ANA and PNG logos on the top with ANA spelled out. It's even smaller than the ANACS holders. Someone asked where is ANACS. It's in Dublin, Ohio. They have a really good website. Jerry

I just saw a set of Pf70 SEs on E-bay graded by American Certfied Coin out of Milton, WI. Their holders are clear plastic and white foam. How long have they been around? Jerry

SEGS really does have it on all of the services for the coin information on the top of the slab. thumbsup2.gif

I also agree with Michael about the ANX slab. Very comfortable and you feel like you can look at more of the coin than other slabs (may be psychological, but it works).

NGC's late generation slabs are great, but still very thick. I suppose that can't be helped, but it's still the case, no?

PCGS makes nickel coins look drab. I like how some other coins look in PCGS slabs, especially dark copper.

NCS is good, but not for every coin. Copper looks great in an NCS slab.

All the others are just copy cats.
