First Coin show

26 posts in this topic

So, I attended my first coin show today and for me it was a little overwhelming because of all of the different coins to look at. I though it would be best to focus on one type of coin while I was there, but that ended up being a little bit of a challenge. My main focus was a coin/s to fill a spot in my new FBL set. Unfortunately, not many tables had the type of coin I was looking for, but after hr's of looking, I found one that I liked. (I'm sorry...my camera does not do these coins justice)

I must thank Ankur for the advice at the show on who to go for what. He also has some really nice looking coins...so nice, that it took me off my search for Frankies, and I ended up buying a nice Morgan from him. It's my first Battle Creek . Thanks Ankur!

I love the crescent toning on that Morgan. The Battle Creek's are more expensive than I am willing to spend, but they are attractive.

Looks like nice solid bell lines on that Franklin. The 1948, being the first year minted, generally has excellent bell lines.

Thanks guys. Love em both! Also happy to get rid of a few problems which helped acquire these.

The crescent toning is a bit brighter than my pic. Lighting is bad here.

No doubt about getting bitten by the bug :) worth every bit of the satisfaction.

BLive1972 - congrats on your first coin show. My first was with friends who were already familiar with the circuit, so I'm glad you were also with someone. From the looks of things, looks like AnkurJ did ok for you: a CAC and a CAC+STAR. Nice!

It'll be a bumpy road, but a fun one too. Enjoy the ride.

I was solo for the most part, but Ankur was at his table and always helped when I stopped by. I could've made a bad buy if he didn't help with this one coin I was looking at.

Glad you had fun and that you were able to buy a few coins you like! (thumbs u

The highlight for me was seeing all three CAC graders at the show! I sold a bit of everything to collectors and dealers. The only coin I bought is a Isabella quarter with amazing toning.

Here are my images of the Battle Creek Morgan.

JA was there?

In the flesh! He was at my table for a good period of time chatting with other collectors. It was the first time I have seen all three of them at a show. He also had fun from what he told me, and bought a few coins to boot!

Ankur...you have a great selection of toned coins! I believe you showed me that coin and it was amazing for sure. Thanks again for the help.

AnkurJ,

Cool!

I can't say that I would recognize JA, but I did see the other two CAC graders - they were talking to each other at the time.

By the way, not to disrupt the vibe, but it would be nice if you had a lamp or two at your table.

I left them by the front door at home and realized it when I was unpacking my car at the show! doh!

Chris from Somerset Hill said the show was slow, but it was anything but slow for me. As I stated, a little of everything sold, but CAC coins were in HIGH demand in all price ranges. The dealers he speaks of who want to quit the game are probably those that carry the same dreck month after month. At the end of the day, you have to pay up for nice coins. Some of the quarters he felt were priced too high did sell to other dealers. To each their own I guess.

I also met for the first time BNB Coins who had an amazing NGC MS69 Morgan! He is a very nice guy in person, and I think the hype created by the PCGS boards about him is not all true.

BLive1972,

You do realize that you're spending quality time with some exceptionally skilled Dealers. Learn all you can, you have great mentoring.

Yes. There's so much to learn and I'm in the right place for the advice. Some great folks here for sure (thumbs u

Look like you purchased a couple of really nice coins.

I'll be attending my first show later this month in the Detroit area. I hope to meet PennyGuy at the show and hope he won't mind my numerous questions.

Thx folks!

jpcienkus ..Have fun. I made a few rounds before actually making any purchases. It's too easy to jump on the first one you fall in love with.

mkman123. Ankur just sold me the Morgan. The Frankie I got from Chris at The Happy Coin. He also had a case chock full of CAC coins.

I've seen that NGC MS69 Morgan Dollar in hand before and was a little surprised it wasn't in an MS69PL holder. Definitely a beauty and I've never seen Liberty's cheek any cleaner on a non-proof Morgan.

Agreed. The luster didn't pop as much in hand though. You really should be blown away by a MS69.
