I have a 5 megapixel digital camera that I would like to use for posting my coin pictures. I have always scanned stuff in the past, but they turn out to be bright and blurry. I can just never seem to get the right lighting. I have heard about what I think was an OTT light. What is it? Help.

You can read all about the OTT light @

Go with incandescent desk lamps with the swinging arms--they're much, much cheaper and with some time will yield excellent results. I have an Ott light, but I basically don't use it--I play sometimes, but it's not worth it for me.

Look at the examples page of my photo site in my sig line--every picture has was taken with nothing more than a desk lamp or two, most with indoor flood lights.

I get decent results with Ott lights. However my best photos are taken with indirect sunlight. However they are also the hardest to get right and take the most time and attempts. Fortunately there is often sun light around here, it doesn't rain much in San Jose, CA in the summer laugh.gif
