HELP!!!!!!! zero-feedback is high bidder on FOURTEEN of my ebay items!!!!

23 posts in this topic

"never2tired4that" has only been registered since July 12, and has ONLY bid on fifteen of my items (got outbid on one). Should this be a huge RED FLAG?

HELP!!!!!!!!!!

It sounds curious. Why not send him an email thanking him for his bids and ask him what he is collecting and for how long? If he replies you will get a better feel for what kind of bidder he is, if he doesn't reply that should tell you something too.

Yes. Is there a way to decline his bid? Have you tried contacting him? Or, eBay? We had a bidder bid on a mere two of our lots, and won. We ended up filing for the fees, and got our fee money back. That bidder of our stuff was quickly NARU'ed by eBay. I think he did it to many sellers...

I like Carl's approach. We all started with zero feedback. It's best to be in contact with the buyer and get a feel for what's up before pulling an EVP. wink.gif

Pulling an EVP? I like it, but I suspect James is too new to the boards to fully appreciate the context. laugh.gif

Anyway, another eBayer was contacting other sellers who had been bid on by this PITA. We all decided that he was up to no good, and I think many people contacted eBay about him. I contacted eBay only to recover my fees, and that was after the other sellers had this PITA NARU'ed.

I recently, in June, had four of my eleven auctions sell to someone with zero feedback, also. They, too, had just registered the previous week. I waited for my money and they sent a US post office money order for the correct amount, plus shipping and insurance. The sales went off smoothly. You may want to give them a chance.

I just hate it when someone steals my lines before I can use them! Especially when it is so applicable. Thanks Hoot! 893censored-thumb.gif

How about..."Grasshoppa, as it is with beer, the journey of a thousand hops must begin with the first hop."

I'd not give it too much thought. There isn't much you can do anyway. The process is designed to give the buyer the benefit of the doubt, regardless of feedback. If they want to make a go of buying on eBay, they'll pay and fast!!! I remember wanting to make a good impression on my first buys too.

James, I know its not much comfort, but until they actually renege on the deals, I'd let the auctions and the bid winners run their course. 893crossfingers-thumb.gif

Ach! Just noticed this was my 1000th post! What do I win?? cloud9.gif

Thanks for the advice fellas. I let it ride, and the mystery bidder ended up winning twelve lots - at $400! As of this morning, no response to my email....

I hope that "pulling an EVP" is nothing like pulling a loose tooth. laugh.gif

I'll let you know what happens .........

The good news (so far...) is that I received a personal check from the bidder, Marie. I'm going to wait a couple of days to make sure it clears. Marie also included a note about how she just got turned onto eBay, and is assembling a set of circulated Standing Liberty quarters. Keep your fingers crossed!

I'll second the "great to hear good news." I kind of figured as much. For as many foul things that happen on eBay, there are vastly more that are straight-up of what was intended. More often than not, I think it is still a place of greater caution for the buyer than the seller.

James,

It looks like she received the coins and left you a bunch of positives on the 5th.

Now how about helping her get rid of the "zero feedback" stigma? smile.gif

Actually, it almost could have gotten ugly. About two days after I received her payment, she emailed me with a concern as to why her coins hadn't shown up yet. At length, she detailed how she'd heard stories about the dangers and pitfall of buying from people on eBay, why was it taking so long, had I ripped her for $300, yada yada. I explained that I'd only received the payment a couple of days earlier, yet had already mailed the coins without even waiting for the check to clear. I gave her my phone number, offered to help her out with using the USPS tracking number, etc. No response.

Lo and behold, next evening, I received an enthusiastic eMail and apology from her - because she had gotten the coins. Her positive feedback soon followed.

I have in fact left her resounding positive feedback in return. Thanks for everyone's support. I guess it's easy to get paranoid with eBay these days.

And welcome to anyone who's a brand new eBay bidder!!!!!!!!

James,

Glad things worked out so well for both concerned. If I may suggest... Send her an email explaining to her the typical turnaround time involved. Most sellers would have waited the requisite several days for a check to clear, and then send the merchandise via slow-but-sure USPS reg+ins.

Regards,

I only have 8 entries in my feedback - so I've been interested in this thread to see how the other side would see my bids. I also typically don't go for big buys, I only take what I really want and nervously wait for feedback to see that my payment arived (usually I land up having to mail & ask - and I get "oh yeah it came a few days ago & I sent the ? - hope it arives, never posted to SA before, 893blahblah.gif".

Paypal don't service SA so I also use international postal order, I always tell this to the seller too.

A few days ago I got really mad that one guy refused to sell me a coin because "all" his shipments to "Africa"(The WHOLE CONTINENT!!!) get stolen. Somehow, I doubt it 893scratchchin-thumb.gif I'm just holding thumbs that somewhere along the line I find the coin somewhere else. 893crossfingers-thumb.gif

flamed.gif - I had to really control my anger not to dump a (-) in his 98ish (+) collection. None of his negetaives mentioned that "the coin never arived" - isn't that strange popcorn.gif. More likely he just decided that if I can't pay with paypal, I clearly just can't pay sign-rantpost.gifsign-rantpost.gifsign-rantpost.gif

I NEVER EVER EVER ship a package until the check clears! I tell my bidders - Paypal gets immediate shipment, Money Order gets your item shipped when M.O. arrives, personal checks get held until they clear. Put that in your auction to avoid any possible confusion. There are a ton of newbies out there who just need a little direction. Since we're on the subject--I only ship to US (lower 48 and Alaska) & Canada. Once people from Australia (for example) find out that it costs a small fortune to get their item, they back out entirely.

I know what you mean, but in the interest of maximum customer service, I have a very risky policy. On anything costing under $40, I ship immediately, even before the payment is sent. Up to $100, I ship immediately upon receipt of payment, and over that amount, I wait for it to clear. This makes bidders very happy, and I've earned a lot of repeat business this way. Of course, I have gotten screwed, but only a couple of times, and the amounts were bearable.

For that matter, as a standard business practice, I mail out most coins on approval if requested. A vast majority of the time, the interested party ends up buying the coin (it helps to have nice stuff!).

In the case of the subject of this thread, I shipped the coins as soon as I got her payment, even though it was around $300. It was a risk, but in the end, turned out well.

If I ever get to a point of routinely handling coins worth over say $500, I'm sure I'll have to change my policy!

Hi! I am on ebay all of the time and a little trick I learned is if you click on the sellers name and it brings up the feedback for that seller---then to the right it says ID history. This will show all of the ID's they have used and the dates they used them

for example

It looks like this
