Found an old coin collection, need help!

20 posts in this topic

I was going through a lot of my late Grandpa's items my Grandma was going to send to the dump, and buried in a box of [!@#%^&^] was a jar of old coins and old paper bills. I know absolutely NOTHING about coins, and I was hoping I could get some feedback from you guys to see if anything in the lot is worth anything.

I am at work now but I will go home and take some pictures and try and post them (I have never posted pictures before here) or if anybody can host them, or interested in the pictures, leave your email and I can email them to you.

Thanks for the input!

Try the NGC -> US Coin or NGC -> Coin Tangents forums. This is for conservation of coins.

Do NOT clean your coins. No matter what!

I agree with gmarguli. Do not clean your coins.

We often get situations where a novice collector has cleaned his or her coins. The value will be hurt tremendously through improper cleaning techniques and there usually is not much conservation can do to reverse those actions.

Turned off anonymous posting on this board.

Geez, Arch, I find it hard to believe that we would have so many vultures lurking on a conservation board. Do you think we should load the shotguns with double-ought?

Wow, more anonymous users jumped on this post than lawyers to a car accident. I should shove together all the coins I don't want to organize and come up with a new screen name...hmmm?

Just kidding, I don't need feedback from those that are too serious. There are no coins I have that I wouldn't organize. I strip search my husband for pocket change! 893censored-thumb.gif

I'll bet that is the part he enjoys most about your coin-collecting!

By the way, Shannon, have you gotten everything moved to Oregon? How are things in the new location? Have you found any "old geezer-type-coin-dealers-that-like-to-tell-interesting-stories"?
