Post a Gift Coin

9 posts in this topic

I received this Raw 1888 Morgan today from a lady I once helped.

I was in her neighborhood and stopped in to say hi, we talked for a bit then she brought out this coin and said, "I want you to have this". I said "wow", but I can't take this coin! She would not take no for an answer, so I thanked her. Her father was born in 1888, and she wants me pass it along as she has no family left. "It's My honor" I told her.

The coin is cleaned, but grades AU in my opinion. Heck of a nice surprise today!

Post a coin you have received as a gift

Very nice of the lady. If it was me, I would stop by to just check on her and offer to do more for, but I would make sure she does not think I expect more coins but instead tell her I really owe her. But more than anything just I just want to help her out. Nice to help someone that obviously appreciates it. I also would treasure that coin, it means much more than the silver value.

What a dear old soul.

Yes, it would have sentimental value for sure. You must have been a BIG help to her, if she felt so compelled to give this to you.

Good for you for being good to her, as well, and it sure sounds like she appreciated it.

The only person who ever gave me a coin as a gift was my dad. He gave me an 1882 CC GSA dollar and an AU 1940-S Walker on two separate occasions. I will cherish them both forever. Sorry but I have no pics.

This 1818 cent was my wife's wedding present to me. It is the type piece for the Coronet large cent in my collection.

The 1853 large cent was the last coin gift my father gave to me. We saw it at a flea market that was held in connection with a Saturday auction that he enjoyed attending, and asked me if I wanted it. I said, "Yes," and he bought for me for $10.

great gifts Bill and others!!

I got a 1914D wheat penny from a forum member here who I will remain anonymous.

I won't sell it and will keep it and am very thankful of that member for their generosity! I consider this person a good coin friend :)
