2004 mintset / (D) kennedy half missing

2004 mintset/Denver Kennedy half missing

  1. 1. 2004 mintset/Denver Kennedy half missing

I just signed up here looking for some advice / help but am unsure of navigation within this service. Hope I'm doing this correctly.

I just recvd from the mint yesterday (2) 2004 mintsets and one of the sets is missing the Denver Kennedy half. No slice or break in the plastic/mylar wrap - its totally sealed so it wasn't tampered with.

Would this be worth keeping or should I send it back to the mint for another set ?

Seems funny to keep it because the set is incomplete, but on the other hand ? ........... I'm sure there aren't a lot of these floating around.

Any thoughts out there ?

thanks David

There is very little interest in these packaging errors so it's not likely you'll ever get a premium for the set. By the same token a missing coin doesn't always affect the price of the set at all. There is a 1970 mint set reported with three small date cents in it; two in the S-mint slot and one in the P-mint.

Packing errors aren't popular at all. You can try to sell it on eBay, but I doubt you'll get much extra money for it. Send the set back to the mint. These error sets can be made with ease. All you need is a sealing machine which aren't expensive.

Would it be worth your time and mailing costs to get a half dollar? Keep as a novelty piece. Most folks and youngsters would find it somewhat interesting.

You might let the mint know and they just might send you another! wink.gif

If he calls the mint they will send him a return shipping label and send him a new set. He will get nothing for free - this is the government you are talking about. smile.gif

What a rip off the mint is going downhill everyday, most times problem is that the coins are all scratched up or damaged in their sets, and to think now they don't even include all the coins. What a shame.....

Hey, everyone,

I rcvd many replies to my question and thanks for them all on the "missing Kennedy half". Has anyone seen it ?

I know it's around somewhere........ laugh.gif

It's Saturday morning, July 17th....I just got up to get going for the w/e and just thought I'd check these msgs from you......having a howl over my cup of coffee. It was interesting to hear everyone's opinion, and I'm still laughing.....I didn't know things were that bad with the mint......but I know about the rest of the government....they can't get ANYTHING right.

I'm sending the mintset back I think, first I'm gonna call em and see if they'll just send me another one (fat chance but I'll try). I have the "return slips" with the sets I rcved so I can just return it after that.

and who knows, maybe I'll recieve a nice doublestike coin in the next set. shocked.gif

Thanks you everyone for the comments...starts out the day on a high note.

David
