Revised topic regarding 1955 doubled die Lincoln

A few months back I inquired on the subject. I have a renewed interest in purchasing one of these. Any tips/advice on any available or coming up for sale in AU or higher grades.

You might try Ira Stein (iras4 on eBay) - I believe he has a focus on 1955 doubled die cents (among other coins).

They are easily available. Ask mark feld or tom bush, they can get you a nice one

ah huh if you are NOT looking for anything with great killer eye appeal

 

 

BUT

 

if you want a choice unc. with lusterous cqartwheel surfaces

and with lots of red brown coloration

and is not dark as a hershey bar,

with no spotting

or staining

or varigated toning

and a true nice light brown with lots of red peeking thru or a solid red brown coin

 

then they are really................................. HARD TO FIND

 

lets add no blue coloration or blue toning from the bottle then you got a really scarce+++++ coin

Michael is correct that prime examples are not offered every day so if you find one at a price you like dont hesitate. Ira and Andy at Angel Dee's are the first places I'd start with, Charmy might also be a possible source. Mark has a great eye for quality and while not the type of material that he usually deals in might also be worth a quick PM.
