Got my first one in change this week from the stamp machine at the post office. I bought a book of stamps and got back a 2000 Sac and a 1999 SBA along with the nickel. .

I've gotten quite a few released by the Denver Mint. Both here at home and in Las Vegas.

I found four, all Denver mint, out of the $40 in nickels the last time I rolled the coins received at my in-laws video store. Not one in regular circulation yet.

Is anyone seeing a whole lot of the new nickels? I can not believe I have not found one yet in circulation.

My wife works a cash register and it was just a matter of time before she comes home with something new! 27_laughing.gif

Hey honey, look at what I found! Yes, I try very hard to look surprised when this happens! First the SBA dollars, then it was currency, quarters from every state and now it's nickels! 893frustrated.gif

Wow! Very nice dear! That's a nice one! 27_laughing.gif

I bought ten rolls of each mm from the mint and was so disappointed at the quality (especially the Phillies), I've been tempted to just spend them for what they are!

Haven't seen many at all in circ but have run across a few in the casino. As most coinage used in a casino is recycled from the bank to the cage to the machine, back to the cage, back to the machine, etc., I consider this a closed loop and not really in circulation.

Hello,

Newbie, here hi.gif. Been collecting now for about a year, and just purchased my first graded coins today, so much excitment! Looks like a great site here by the way!

To answer the question of this post, yes I've seen a few of them passing around. I work at a grocery store, and notice them occasionaly in the drawers. Plucked about two dozen or so out so far. But yes, as someone said "Nothing like the state quarter program". I actually have an easier time finding wheaties (my favorite), then the new nickels.

Well, off to browse around some more!

I know this will be a dumb question blush.gif as I have been detached from the hobby for several years, but what nickels are we talking about. I have seen the handshake and Boatkeel nickels on Ebay, though I wasn't aware that they would be in circulation.

What are the other two nickels that I should be looking for???? Is it just those two with different mint marks???

Thanks

I got my first handshake nickel in change today and my first Florida (and first 2004 State Quarter) in change a couple of days ago!

Frankly, I see a lot more pre-1999 quarters in change than I do state quarters these days. I think that CoinStar is having a major impact on coin circulation patterns in the NYC suburbs - everyone must be emptying their change jars into them, so no stores need to order new coinage, they have lots of old coinage to use.

I've seen several. When I got them there were rolls in the cash register so I'm not the only one! This one jumped out to my eye as it has excellent luster. It also is FF (Full Fingernails) laugh.gif

I didn't know there was going to be TWO designs out. Interesting.

Anywho, I saw the one design style (like Carl's pic) about a month and a half ago. I got one or two in change. I haven't seen ANY since.

Guess I've been luckier than most. I've gotten several of them. Should I be saving them? After all, they are circulated.

On another note, I got a Texas quarter in change the other day and it has a beautiful BU shine with swirls!

Speaking of Texas quarters I had a relatively EASY time picking up a couple P and D mints for my Dansco set at the LB show Saturday. In the past it is VERY difficult to find nice BU pieces to choose but the Texas issue seems to have been made very well by the mint. Even more surprising was that the P mints were nicer! 893whatthe.gif Something I almost never see....

Has the 2nd nickel design been released yet?
