Re: An inquiry by poster “LanceNewmanOCC” on PCGS about number of dies used.

Here are a few numbers:

1-cent 1908, SF, 4 obv and 4 rev sent Nov 13, 1908. Only shipment of cent dies.

1909 SF mint

$20 13 pairs used

$10 7 pairs used

$5 15 obv, 4 rev used

Half 10 obv, 7 rev used

Quarter 6 obv, 7 rev used

Dime 4 obv, 4 rev used

Cent – Indian 2 pair, Lincoln obv 18, Lincoln VDB rev 5, Lincoln rev, no VDB 20

Annual die destruction lists exist for many years. There is a lot more information available, much of it was published by Bob Julian in Numismatic Scrapbook years ago.

Get the articles by Julian - they are well organized and represent a lot of research.

Typo correction: for 1909 the SF $5 obverse should read "5" not "15."

Also, of 1909 Lincoln cent obverse dies, only 4 were used in combination with the VDB reverse.
