Bruceswar, and Hoot,

It didn't look like the normal broadstruck coin. Notice the doubling near the lips, and chin on the obverse, and the near the wings on the reverse.

I wonder if that could just be some sort of machine doubling?

The doubling looks too big for that.I have never seen machine doubling that dramatic. I have seen other double struck broadstruck coins like this. Not on a Kennedy, though.

that was one of the first things I noticed was the doubling... once I got past the point of .... how the hell did this make it out of the mint...

Kennedies are rare with such dramatic errors. Nice catch! Usually ernie of eBay sells at full blown retail and overgrades a notch or two. Neat to see one escape him.
