ANA 2012 Newps (aka veni vidi vici)

8 posts in this topic

I picked up 3 newps this week at the ANA. All 3 are Austrian talers in high grade.

Here are images of all 3 coins (done by a board member who regularly images for lite-side folks).

1. 1603 Austria Hall Dav-3005 MS64. Fantastic satiny luster on both sides, which didn't come through at all on the obverse. Monster eye appeal (which you cannot tell because the coin is too "busy", like a imaging a Lafayette dollar).

2. 1627 Austria Hall Dav-3337 MS65. As with the previous image, the semi-satiny luster (from die polish lines) didn't come out at all. And in hand, the coin does not look so "stained". Also with monster eye appeal. One thing interesting about this coin is that you can see the metal fatigue, particularly on the forehead and cheek.

3. 1707 Austria Hall Dav-1018 MS64. Semi-PL, but the planchet and coin details had too much going on that it's too hard to properly bring out the luster as well as the delicate colors mixed in with the old-time patina. Again, with monster eye appeal.
