1981 quarter error? 0

The quarter I think may have a die chip where the mint mark should be and on the reverse side some of the letters are missing. If this is by some slim chance an error is there any value on the coin besides face value?

Appears to be post mint damage in all cases. At the mintmark the die may have deteriorated a bit but it's not anything that would command a premium.

Agree. Your quarter appears well-circulated with common post-mint damage. No premium. Keep looking though!

Are you looking for doubling and repunched mint marks? If so, read our host's description of identifying true double dies: https://www.ngccoin.com/news/article/5688/Double-Dies-vs-Machine-Doubling/. For mint marks, use VarietyVista to be sure there's actually mint mark variety for the year and mint in question.
