Ebay sucks

14 posts in this topic

You know I truly believe ebay sucks and I'm done with them. I've always put up with alot of [!@#%^&^] from them, from non-paying bidders, to stalker like bidders, to buyers who leave negative feedback over meaningless frivolity, but this time they took the cake.

Recently, I listed five auctions for slabbed early commem.s. In the listing I wrote that Paypal is not acceptable because of the fees, but, if the buyer really wanted the coin fast they could use it if they split the fees with me. Sounds fair right? We all know how Paypal bends us sellers over with theses fees right?

Well apparently some f##k didn't like this and wrote to ebay who then cancelled my auctions because it violates there rules and it's 'illegal.' First off, they give a link that says it's illegal to charge surcharges on credit card payments in California. Well, I wasn't charging a surcharge for credit cards, but Paypal, and I live in Florida so I don't give a f##k what they do in California.

Now I'm pist off because I spent all this time scanning images and writing descriptions. I have concluded that I just won't do business with ebay any more. Instead I'll just hit Heritage or teletrade.

Ebay sucks. Sorry for venting here, but I wanted my fellow 'coin sellers' here to know how much of a bunch of f##ks they are. sign-rantpost.gifsign-rantpost.gifsign-rantpost.gif

Most states (all?) don't allow credit card surcharges. And since PayPal is located in CA, CA law applies.

To get around this, list in the auction that the selling price is a CASH discounted price. If the buyer wishes to pay using something other than cash/check/money order, there is a 3% surcharge.

Or you can charge a 3% "processing fee" to accept forms of payment that aren't cash/check/money order.

Last I heard, these are OK with eBay and conform to the law.

Yes Greg I suppose I could do that. However, I inturn took the coins and shipped them off to teletrade. It may take a bit longer to get paid, but the satisfaction from not giving Ebay one red cent feels oh so much better. devil.gif

As for buying from Ebay ever again, I sincerely doubt it, unless it another one of your auction. wink.gif

I know you're ticked, but Teletrade charges more in fees than eBay + Paypal combined.

I think you'll do better selling your coins on eBay and relisting them is easy once you edit out the problem from your description.

I don't understand why everyone thinks these services should be free of charge! 893scratchchin-thumb.gif Paypay provides a convenience service to speed up the transactions between the seller and the buyer. Whoever is receiving funds should pay the small percentage that is tacked on for using paypal. What I don't like about the paypal fee is when the transaction runs above $100. I'll usually state that in my auction description.

Yes, they should have a max fee to go along with that percent charge!

To be honest with you, not really. The difference is very, very minimal. And it's a small price to pay for satisfaction. thumbsup2.gif

By no means do I expect that Paypal should be free. However, I feel I should be allowed to pass that on to the buyer in any way I choose. If they don't like that they can either not bid, figure that fee into their bid, or send a money order or check. Why can't I come out and say I don't like paypal fees so I'm passing them on? Why,....because it looks bad for Paypal and Ebay owns Paypal and they're trying to stifle my opinion(s) and the way I present them. confused-smiley-013.gif

Thousands of dealers sell millions of coins on coin trading networks and do NOT take paypoo, bidbuck, badbid, bigbum, paypart, or ANYTHING but checks.

Or cash.

Why is it that a COLLECTOR can not wait for a check to clear before getting a coin?

I totally agree. Between the "sellers," "listing," and "paypal" fees ebay really reels in a buck! The problem is that there really is no way around it if you want to sell your stuff on ebay. I dont buy stuff from sellers who dont take paypal because you dont have a way to prove payment sent without paypal (if it gets lost in the mail).

One way to recover that I have seen is through shipping and insurance costs. You can privately insure (not through USPS) your items and it costs less, allowing you to make up some cash. Another way is through additional shipping costs. You can charge $6 instead of $5 and it wont [!@#%^&^] people off too much. Also, a lot of sellers I have bought stuff from send an email after the sale that says they will send a "bonus" coin if I dont use paypal. Its usually a proof penny or something minor, but it could be an incentive to use your banks wiretransfer option (which is free) and also instant!

I know that there is a pending lawsuit against paypal and I'm not sure what its for, anyone know?

ps- heres a shameless plug! I listed a bunch of items on the evil website to get rid of a lot of [!@#%^&^] I have in a closet. I based prices on the ending prices of auctions I saw. If you think the price is too high email me with an offer, if it doesnt sell and I dont have higher (reasonable) offers, its yours...if you dont pay with paypal...

For me it's not that I can't wait for a check to clear, it's just that most sellers will take PayPal and if there are two items I want and one takes PP and the other doesn't, it isn't hard to figure out which one to bid on. When I run auctions I state that I wait for checks and money orders to clear (yes, money orders need to clear). I don't usually wait for them to clear before shipping (I shipped some coins to people this last time based on their word they had mailed a check. I have never done business with them before), but you'd be surtprised at how impatient some people are. Three days after the auction ends they email asking if I got the check and if I have shipped yet. foreheadslap.gif

For expensive items, I want to use a credit card. I like the security. It's not that I don't trust the seller, it's just that I don't trust the seller. 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

I'll pay by check and run the risks of canceling it if it gets lost. But one of the amazing things, is that I can see through my account that the check was cashed, cleared and deducted but yet the guy still needs to wait forever to ship! The thought has passed my mind to send an email to let the guy know but how would he believe me? 27_laughing.gif Perhaps I should send a copy of my bank account!

I know we where just banned from Ebay for letting some of our customers know of items that where being sold that where not true to what they where saying. We email from our own personal mail box nothing to do with Ebay and also a website was made as infomation we recieved about 200 thank you emails from our customers for letting them know. But still we where kicked off Ebay.

I say everyone go to Yahoo and sell get your customers over to Yahoo. We have 9600 customers and we have let eachone know where we are. Less money that goes into Ebay pockets the more changes maybe they will come back down to earth. And about Paypal everyone knows Ebay have bought them so nothing more needs to be said. I read the rules pertaining to why we where told we where kicked off and makes no sense. What we did was warn we never said not to buy from these two people that where doing this but Ebay not knowing about the items being sold took the side of the sellers that listed them now the sellers have changed what they had. I bought two one from each and will see both in court. But I say yes their are other auction sites and we all need to make them big we are the ones that made Ebay what they are not the other way around so if everyone can get their customers to other sites we can make changes :0) Why give Ebay all of our money?
