"Lost That Lovin Feeling"?

4 posts in this topic

Its been coming on for a while now. I still actively look for coins to either add to my collection or upgrade, but I feel as if I'm just going thru the motions out of habit!

Sometimes, and more often as of late, I think of just selling everything and putting the money towards my mortgage, payoff the car and the CC bills, additions to my home, etc. Any number of things that, for all intents and purposes, the money would be better off doing.

How many of you have "Lost That Lovin Feeling" concerning your collection and/or collecting (coins OR comics people), and what did you do to to get thru it? I still feel something towards collecting, but it just hasn't been the same for some time now, and can't really put my finger on why I'm losing it. I'm standing in the middle on the teeter-totter!

HELP!!!!!

David -

Could it be that you just can't find what you're looking for to add to your collection and are getting frustrated as a result? Maybe its time to start working on a new series to keep your interest up and give you the opportunity to learn something new and different? While you're doing that, you can still keep an eye out for coins you need for your 'core' collection - and expanding your efforts will serve to revive your flagging interest.

I've done that several times and it sure works for me. The additional series I've started have forced me back to the books to learn and have resulted in some beautiful additions to my collection that would never have been made if I had just stuck with my core interests. Plus I now have even more things to be looking for as the number of holes I'm trying to fill and upgrades that can be made are even larger than before.

Just a thought...

Dave,

Just take a little time off and hit the links. Before you know it you will get that "feelin" back. I think it is just the summer doldrums that you are in. I know you are hooked and that big numismatist in the sky isn't gonna let you get away that easy. grin.gif

Thanks RWW and Dave for the advice. I really wish it were as easy as just getting out and playing golf to dispel my collecting doldrums. Do it once a week just to keep my sanity from the job I have, but no time for more then the one round.

Have thought about taking a short hiatus from it all, and know I could do it. Don't know how long it would go on for and the downside is---will I ever want to get back into it if I do take some time off? Or will it only magnify the problem? Won't know til I do it but I do know I need to do something (or maybe nothing?).
