Unplated Cent?

4 posts in this topic

This is a cent that has very little copper, only on the high points. I have no Idea what to make of it since it is 1957, and I thought that all of those were pure copper. Some advice please? It is in the attachment. I scanned this one too, but it only does have copper on the highest points of lincoln's person. The back has absolutely no copper. 893whatthe.gif

in my opinion bASED on the scan and of course i would need to see the coin in person sight seen to confirm this

but this lincoln cent is copper an original correctly made coin

then someone gave it a really light wash/plating of another colored metal this is easy to to with a battery and some household items then the coin got back into circulation and got worn in circulation hence the plating wore off the high points revealing the original copper coin underneath

Michael has given you an excellent response and I will only add that a coin like this is essentially the inverse of all those copper-plated 1943 cents that we see.
