Howdy folks, it's been a while since I have posted in this board but I think I will be here more now. At the recent GSNA convention I picked up a very nice four reales with Charles III on it. It's from the Potosi mint and is from 1773. As for its value, I haven't a clue, however, I thought it was cool and it appears to have choice, original surfaces. Enjoy. 507385-Bolivia%201773%20Four%20Ra.jpg

Very nice Tom. I think that's a smooth coin. Literally and figuratively. I like the look of the piece. I think it has great eye appeal being free from any major or minor distraction(s) and it appears to be very well evenly worn. Nice snag. thumbsup2.gif

Hmmmm - one I don't have 893scratchchin-thumb.gif A nice piece though - 4 reales are not easy to come by for the most part. I hope you do post here more often - and get more of those columnarios too wink.gif One of my all time favs cloud9.gif

The coin has a nice look to it. It's also cool since so many Spanish colonial coins (not necessarily from Bolivia) circulated in the US until 1857.

That is an attractive circulated coin!

One thing I always like about the designs is just how pleased with himself Charles looks, despite having such a big nose. I guess it's good to be the king!

I wonder why some of the rulers looked so angry on their coins. You rule a country - smile for once!

As for this coin, I like the reverse design. Similar to German/Austrian thalers.

I agree with his portrait on here, he looks extremely happy to be the King! Heck, i'd be happy, too!
