When did this forum turn into a fight club?

91 posts in this topic

I'm glad the thread is gone but in the thread ATS some say they don't come over here because they find it is typical behavior of the NGC message board. I find that "LOL" funny. There is NO comparison. I've been on both boards for about 10 years and the PCGS board is FAR worse...hell...it's not even close. For the simple reason there are more members. The "one bad apple" theory applies. The more people the more of a chance threads spiral into oblivion. The PCGS board wins that hands down. Even some PMs I've received over there are rude.

I posted in that thread yesterday before I went to the casino. When I came back to the forum today, it was poofed. I have no idea what happened but I can imagine why it would turn ugly.

I have only been a member ATS for a few years because I refused to sign up for the longest time because I can't understand the format of that forum. Funny thing is that the members ATS are complaining about the format over here in the thread ATS.

Your post has sparked a thought in my mind. It occurs to me that when members ATS get out of line and get banned, many of them end up as members over here. Yet if this forum inherits all of the problem children, why does this forum remain "sleepy hollow"?

:applause: Great post Paul. You could also add that I have never seen a post ATS that said " got banned at the NGC forum".

It's only the second train wreck I've seen since on these boards.

PCGS forum members always come over here when they don’t care for something that was written in a thread. Who’s “crypto?”

He's one of the most established authorities on Trade Dollars on the planet. He also is a no nonsense kind of guy and pulls no punches. He is like that on the PCGS boards as well. He has a decent post count here but that must have been from back in the day. He hit a nerve with his comments but there were germs of truth in his posts if anyone really cares to do some self reflection and read his words carefully in context. John is top shelf.

I respect your opinion, but disagree fully. I dont really care who you are. Nobody has the right to call our host 2nd tier, this forum 2nd tier, and the collectors that enjoy the hobby here 2nd tier.

I don't disagree with your sentiment. No one likes to be insulted. But I think everyone's entitled to voice his opinion and crypto had every right.

IMO it was inflammatory and served no purpose. An unfortunate mistake in judgment.

Disagree, if you will, but defend his right to say it.

Lance.

I'll agree that he does have the right to say whatever his mind can think up, but when you say something for the sole purpose of fueling the fires, you're ignorant.

I never joined the PCGS forums, all I know about them is from what I hear from you guys. It does sound like threads get out of control ATS, and that some members are rude snobs.

The forums over here have more structure and moderation and I like that. My question is that if members ATS get banned for insulting PCGS, why doesn't NCS/NGC ban Crypto for insulting NGC by calling them "2nd tier"? I am just saying fair is fair, I do not know Crypto and I am not attacking him with that remark.

I will agree with everyone about free speech and what not, but I do not agree with people who use free speech as an excuse to ridicule, harrass, and insult others.

I think the conversation was getting borderline controversial when members began commenting on the mental health of Julian. I didnt really care for the thread because it wasnt the first time I seen a high price and I think I owe Julian a little bit of respect. I just couldn't believe how the people ATS came over acting like they were god and calling us 2nd tier collectors. It wasnt until today after I had time to think about that I began wishing I never commented in the thread. I now realize that crypto was just trying to enjoy the unfostered environment that we have over here. Every now and then some people need to let of some steam and they are clearly not allowed to over there. Thats why we can all be glad that we are members of this great forum.

Well put and I feel the same way. I was laughing at some of the statements NOT at Julian. I do repect him and we all have the right to ask what ever we want for the coins we sell. I just want to get this in the open. I am not the kind of person that would make someone feel bad or pass judgment....Joe

Because NGC doesn't believe in using such tactics just because someone says something negative about them.

To me, that is the cowards way out. Personally, I think it is very savvy of NGC. What better way is there to get feedback about your company when you allow them to speak their mind right here.

I've been here for a little more than 7 years, and in that time, I can only recall a couple of people being banned, and it was for very crude language. Nothing else!

Some perspective...

This kind of stuff happens all day, every day on the Comics and General Discussion areas of this very board.

The Coin side is a peaceful haven compared to the other sections. It's night and day different.

Just something to keep in mind.

You beat me to this post, RMA. :baiting: With that said, it's a caring community, as it is here. I should mention that the gold forum on the comics side more resembles this coin forum.

How can you disagree fully? Some of my statements are self evident

1) he is an authority on Trade Dollars

2) He does speak his mind without using butter

You are also taking some of his comments out of context IMO. Please supply his entire post and review. I also said.........."germs of truth". I didn't endorse his post word for word because I didn't agree with everything.

Outside of some kool aid drinkers complaining about NGC coins being over graded the NGC Forum is never or rarely discussed ATS. I actually think that bothers some people over here and illicit's the "little brother" syndrome" IMHO. Conversely rarely a day goes by where somebody HERE doesn't take a shot at PCGS or the CU Forum or the way it's moderated. A lot of it comes from banned PCGS members that may have a personal ax to grind fairly or not. Considering the volume of posts here is about 20% of what they are ATS it sticks out like a sore thumb to me.

For the record I own an equal number of NGC and PCGS coins and love them equally.

Okay after splitting hairs you got me. He dont mind speaking off the cuff just as I dont mind it. As for trade dollars I know nothing about them or him.

You know darn well I cant bring his whole qoute back because its gone. But was paraphrasing the 2nd tier thing. those were his exact words.

For the record my son hates "white caser coins" so I cross everyone of my coins in the collection over to PCGS. My account with NGC has expired. I have no problem with PCGS. I do have a problem with some of the people thinking if they come over here to talk to us there doing us a favor.... As I stated before Aurora Borealis is the one and only person (that does not participate in both forums) that I wish did.

I do not know why McGoldy even picked this fight? He is too late for the ATS mob and insult scene and too little substance to take seriously. So, Yawn!

You and I will have to agree to disagree about that. There are many people in the Comics and General Discussion sections that would gleefully twist the knife if given the opportunity.

:screwy:

I picked a fight? I didn't start this thread to start a fight, and if that is how you want to twist it, be my guest. I don't need to have been a member here for 10 years to make observations, comment on posts and I certainly know the difference between a comment made as a joke and a comment made as an insult. Regardless of if I have 130 posts or 1300 posts, the duration of my membership has nothing to do with my thread(s). I am a well educated person and If you are judging me by the amount of time that I have been a member here, Get real.

I started this thread because I am sure plenty of other members who read threads everyday are not here to be insulted. Yes there are times where we all make a sarcastic comment on a thread that is not meant to be insulting, but other members get offended by it. I understand that, but when a thread goes from talking about if a coins has AT or NT to singling out one member and ridiculing their comments. That is what I was talking about in this thread that I started.

I honestly do not care that you think I am not qualified to make threads like this one, many members who read it and/or commented on it did so because I made valid points. I am glad to see you take 5 minutes out of your day to comment on my thread, even though what you said served no purpose.

I don't need you to take me seriously, you're behind a computer as am I. If you want to play the "I am too young to know what I am talking about" card, I hope you still have the full deck. You're going to need more than calling me a Newb to make me think I don't know what I am talking about in any of my threads.

I thank NCS for providing me with the perfect smilies image for you: :troll:

Don't pay any mind to OT3. He's been like this for as long as I've been around. I've never fully understood his posts, and do not feel any less from not understanding.

I do not plan on it lol.

What he said does not bother me, I find it amusing. Samething on Facebook or anyother website that I am a member of. I have friends that would rather make comments on my facebook page for my business and say things to drive my customers away, just because they are jealous that I grew up and became successful. Most of those guys are no longer friends of mine, even if we had years of great times. If OT3 would rather sit on here all day with a notebook full of snappy pointless comments, waiting for the right time to strike, I am sure being at a Bar with him is a blast! :ohnoez:

EVP you are out of line. Being a New Yawker just acerbates this issue because you think that it gives you standing here and it does not!

You do not even know me and have absolutely no standing on judging my character or much else about me. I would suggest sticking to something that maybe you have some expertise or knowledge about and maybe reigning in your mouth just for laughs!

To this point, I have said nothing about you nor have I demeaned you. Why are you doing it to me except maybe to act out your superiority fantasies?

You qualify first for my PFYEF (Pennies for your eyelids fund), meaning that you have been rude again! I already told you that your firm is eliminated from my buy list of dealers, not that your supreme arrogance cares, I have bought several coins from your company but do not feel inclined to do so ever again. I have put your company's name on my list and there it shall remain, wiseguy!

Please excuse my typos, we provincials and our pedestrian, old age frailties must look stupid to Mr. Know-it-all!

Wow, just chill guys. Especially you OT3. You and I have had our differences, but calm down man. McGoldy isn't picking a fight, and this discussion has been civil, with some good points. I don't care that you are old, sick, on medication, grumpy, or whatever else your excuse is going to be. There is no need for the hostility and name calling.

Respectfully, Jason. He started it and I want no part of him or his attitude. I have stated my terms for dealer contact and will conduct myself accordingly. I am leaving this topic now and go back to my real life at this point, just a thought for those who think that there is anything more to say at this point..

This is over and I will conduct myself according to the rules I have laid out for dealers. Simple yes, final, absolutely.

I never pick a fight especially not on the stupid internet and I never back down from being pushed around and being made fun of by people whom I do not know and who could not pick me out of a crowd of two! I lived my life, contributed, worked very hard, raised (5) children and did things that make me proud of what I was able to accomplish, enough said.

Good bye EVP. I will never respond to you again.

When I am on the NGC or PCGS forum I am all about coins and the admiration that I have for them. I am certainly against all "mudslinging" and anything that doesn't add to this great hobby.

I love this hobby as well. I have been collecting (or wasting my time (accumulating, according to whomever you wish to believe) for 50+ years. I have even quit the hobby for several years during a few fiasco's which closely resemble this one or when I have been stung by egregious dealings with people who have a surfeit of conscience available to support their business ethics (no names implied).

I will go back to my normal mode of reading and reflecting on mostly what others say and contributing when I have something to add that may have a scintilla of something that may help another collector deal with an issue. I will also continue to collect what I want and feel that I like to have in my collection. That is the real bottom line here, not all of this distraction and smoke.

The internet is a great faceless blackboard for character assassination, besmirching reputations and bullying people. It is often misused by people to support ugly agendas. Ones that most of we individuals would not stand in front of another person and actually say to their face the things that are said on these forums. There is very little physical threat to this type of behavior. Some actually find it engaging and ego building. I find it ugly and a waste of precious time.

Anyhow, I am done with this and y'all take it for what you feel it is worth. I have better things to do with my time.

What happened to you leaving this thread TWO posts ago? You talk about people using the internet for character assassination as if you only use it for Email.

I made valid points when I started this thread and I will continue to make valid points in every post or thread I make. All you did was call this thread boring and say that I don't qualify to talk about what I said in the thread. (If you read my post correctly, one of the reasons I started this thread was because of comments like yours on a civilized thread.

I will leave you with that. Thanks for proving my point(s). :applause:
