Need help locating a book

I don't know where you can find the book you mention, but you should check out the new release by Crawford and also David Lange's excellent book at http://www.stantonbooks.com/. Follow the link to "small cents."

And welcome to the boards! smile.gif

Thanks for the feedback. I will consider both. This is a father's day gift - he pours over a few thousand pennies a week - and he requested Wexler's book.

Any reason it is out of print? Also, between the two above, which is the more 'must have'?

Thanks again,

John

Hi John - Crawfords book is reported to have more detail about varieties than Lange's book. However, I've not yet seen Crawford's book (although I plan on getting it), and I have Lange's book, which is an excellent date-by-date description of the series with major varieties noted. They are likely very complementary. I don't thinnk you could go wrong with either/both.

As for Wexler and Flynn's book being out of print, it was likely a limited printing. I am not as fond of their books, as they all have the same introduction (good, I suppose, if you only buy one) and much of their varieties are difficult to spot, even in comparison with their photos. Nuancical to say the least. They might update their Lincoln cent book sometime in the future.

John, are you any relation to Walter?

Regarding the Lincoln references, I only own one currently; "The Standard Guide To The Lincoln Cent", by Dr. Sol Taylor. It is not very useful, so I would not recommend it. I will purchase David Lange's book soon to replace it.

You might want to ask them if the book is in stock before you make an online payment. I made that mistake twice on this same book. Never got the book and finally gave up.

Regarding Kelgory...

If you go to their main page, you'll see a couple of messages saying that the site is "temporarily down for maintenance", although everything seems to be working okay.

I tried calling their 800 number and got a message stating that "301.829.6000" was no longer in service (which is their reg. phone line).

Hmmm. Anyway, I ordered from Stanton.

Thanks,

John
