When submitting world coins to NGC through a dealer...

4 posts in this topic

Should I expect to pay the dealer a fee? Or do I just pay the NGC rates?

I know that this is not the correct forum for this, but I submitted this question to the "Ask NGC" forum a little while ago and I haven't heard yet. I'm headed out of town for a while and want to get this done tomorrow or the next day, but want to make sure I am not getting ripped off. In case it matters, I have 18 coins to submit.

Thanks

You should pay the NGC stated rates: $12 for coins under $300; $28 for over $300; $20 for gold.

Dealers may give you a discount, but that is up to them.

If you join the Collectors Society and submit online, you get a 10% discount + a bunch of free stuff (5 early bird submissions, state quarter multi-slab, etc).

John,

Before I became a paid member and could submit coins myself, I used to submit though a dealer. I did this for years, and not once did he ask me to pay anything other than the normal grading fees + postage. As a matter of fact on occasion, if he was submitting a bunch of his coins the same time I had coins to submit he wouldn’t even charge me the postage! 893whatthe.gif

I don’t know if all dealers would be this kind though. confused-smiley-013.gif

Depending on the service, registered dealers can expect to pay less than the stated fees. So, if you submit through a dealer and pay the stated fee, the dealer may be making a small fee for each coin. I would not expect anyone to charge you a fee for a submission.
