Way to go Mark! 893applaud-thumb.gifthumbsup2.gif Just got my free issue of "Coin Values" with my latest issue of CoinWorld. Bottom of page 66:

Specialist collector Mark M. Hooten notes that to qualify as full steps (five or six steps), steps must extend uninterrupted from the left to the right buttresses. The steps cannot meet anywhere in between nor can the steps be joined by contact marks or "tags" of metal. Any contact marks must be minor and must not fully break any step. Contact marks that are centrally positioned may disqualify the coin from having the full steps designation.

Wouldn't it be nice if all the TPGCs graded to this standard? Alas, they do not. Also wished to rant about the mags values stated for FS Jeffs (or actually, the lack of). Listing only 65FS and 66FS values---and then, only around a third of all dates/mms for the series, leaves a lot to be desired!

Thanks David! They have been placing that with the Jeff nickel prices for a while now and they are really pointing back to the April 21 & 28, 2003 article that appeared in CW. It's been a blast.

Did you catch my article on Jeffs in the Aril 19 CW issue, or the buffalo nickels article in the most recent Coin Values? Those were fun to write. smile.gif

Thanks again for the kudos! flowerred.gif

Sorry Mark, that CW issue came out before my subscription started. As for the Buffalo article, I read most of it without even realizing who the author was! blush.gif

Thank you again David! So, you are just now starting your CW subscription? 893whatthe.gifwink.gif I know that the magazine has taken some heat around here, but overall, I think they do a pretty good job.

I must say that I have yet to subscribe to NN blush.gif. Oh well, we can't have everything, right??? So far, I subscribe to CW, Coin Values, and Greysheet. Pubs I get with membership are Numismatist (ANA), The Portico (Jefferson FSNC), and Errorscope (CONECA). I also get all the catalogs and e-zines from the auction houses. So, between those and the umpteen books I have (and continue to buy), I seem to have plenty to read! The writing is just a matter of critical mass - shovel so much information in, and something has to result. laugh.gif

There are several members around the boards whose articles have appeared over time, and, of course, Dave Lange, whose excellent work appears regularly in the Numismatist. I think that you should write an article for The Portico that tells the tale of creating a full step Jeff collection and the benefits of keeping it in the raw! smile.gif

Mark, I think my first issue was the one just past of your article in April. You bring up a subject that has crossed my mind for awhile---i.e. an article about doing a raw series, specifically Jeffs, but just haven't DONE it! It is on my todo list, but so are about a thousand other things, mostly non-numismatic related.

By the way, could you please email me a scan of the greysheet Jeff roll bid/ask prices with dates? Could really use a copy!

Thanks, Mark!
