Charmy’s Pawn Stars Filming/Las Vegas Show Report w/Lots of Pics!!!

33 posts in this topic

I arrived here in Las Vegas on Wednesday afternoon, checked into my room at the Rio, then headed over to Pawn Stars for my filming appointment. There was a long line around the building but, as instructed, I went straight to the door and let them know who I was and that I was there for filming. A production assistant led me to the back room where they usually film Rick in front of the guitars. I was given paperwork to sign, including a confidentiality agreement so I cannot discuss details about the filming, my item, etc. Nor can I publish photos of the “back side” of the shop, but I can post photos of the public side of the pawn shop so I took photos of some very interesting items they had for sale in the store. I can say that I had a great time, they treated me like I was someone special, and Corey was a lot of fun to negotiate with.

Just before I arrived at the Pawn Stars shop, I spotted this American Restoration Truck! I love this show as much as I do Pawn Stars!

After I was finished filming, I met Todd and his dad Roger for dinner at Tony Romas on Fremont Street. They have very yummy ribs!

And then in the morning – the weather here in Vegas is absolutely beautiful!

I stopped by the PCGS show at the Venician, bought a few coins, but didn’t see many forum members. Then headed to the Palace Station for set up.

After set up, I stayed at Palace Station and played some 4-8 limit poker. After I doubled my money, I headed back to the Rio for some more “Ultimate texas Hold-Um “ and “Texas Hold-Um Bonus. I really enjoy both of these games!

That’s it for today – more later!

Great report, it's nice to know that they treat the sellers with some respect.

thats very cool, I hope they offered lots for your camera

those guys also go on tour

I could have seen them in a casino 1000 miles from Vegas

but did not want to pay $50 for a 'antiques roadshow' type appearance and autographs

Glad you had a great time! Not a fan of fake reality, but will be sure to catch this one.

The coin and token prices in the case are ridiculous....

Stormy you should have stayed at The Venetian. I stayed at the Rio for a few days last summer when I played in the WSOP. When I was done with the tourney I went over to the Venetian for a couple of days – rooms were only $150 a night. Only reason I would stay at the Rio is for convenience, as you know that is where they hold the WSOP. The hotel is ok but dated, they had to bring in a new mattress for me because the bed in my room was so old and soft. With my back if I slept on that soft mattress I would not have been in a lot of pain the next day!! Best thing about the Rio is the Buffet outside the poker room – did you eat there ?? Poker room at The Rio is not that nice, The Venetian has one of the best Poker rooms in Vegas.

RWB – I agree reality TV is just that – totally fake. I do like watching Pawn stars but realize it is all pre scripted BS. Too much already with the reality TV – have you people seen some of the BS they put on TV and then label it reality ??

Great story, Charmy. It will be fun to see another person I know on the show.

A couple years ago, I was called by the producer to do a segment with a 1932-S quarter that turned out to have an added mintmark. Unfortunately, the call was made to the office on the first day of the FUN show, and by the time I played my messages on Monday they'd moved on to the next person on their list. I believe some local coin dealer was their "expert" in the filmed episode.

That picture you took from your room at night, I specifically remember putting together a puzzle of that scene!

Very very close! Its definetly from they exact same hotel and close to that balcony or window you took yours from....

That's funny

Nick

I can say that they told me they were very pleased with how things turned out in my segment and they kept telling me I was doing an excellent job. I said "I bet you tell that to all your sellers" and they empatically said "No!" And when I asked whether they thought my segment would actually air, they said they air about 98% of the segments they film. They said it would air anytime from 2 weeks to 2 years but generally they air within a couple months. Yes, I will definitely do a post when I find out the air date. I'm so excited to be on tv!

Sorry, I can't talk about my item, the negotiations, or anything done behind the scenes until my segment airs, not even in pms. I would love to be able to talk more about my experience but being an ex-litigation paralegal, I understand the seriousness of what it means to break a confidentiality agreement and don't want to go there.

By the way, I only took a photo of one side of the store - the other side had a sign that said "no photos" because that is where the conducted business.

And to explain a little how this came about, I didn't just show up, I emailed them head of time about my item (non-numismatic) to see if they were interested in it as it had what I thought were some unique aspects. They called me and said they were very interested in having me and my item filmed for one of their episodes and we scheduled the filming for a time that I would be in Las Vegas.

And Mike, when I do the Palace Station show, I stay at the Rio because I get rooms there for free and it's a very nice place in my view and it's in close proximity to the Palace Station.

I saw lots of things in their store I would like to have, like that juke box (we already have a restored 1956 Seeburg juke box and the one in the photo would go great right next to ours) but I restrained myself!

Friday – The LVNS show is pretty large with about 200-250 dealers. And there was a very decent crowd when the show opened.

Great Stuff Charmy! I like to see the image of Todd and his dad also, they always have big smiles at the bourse.

Best, HT

That's because I take their photo over and over until they finally smile just to get rid of me!

Just my opinion, the people on Pawn stars look like borderline criminals... not high class and refined like coin dealers.... just my opinion..

Thanks for the report Charmy!!

lol plenty of coin dealers are criminal and unrefined!!! :roflmao: I'm just kidding but don't get me started on THAT!

That is a sort of antagonistic remark, though.

I love Pawn Stars and look forward to seeing Charmy's episode!

I don't like how 'Big Hoss' lowballs everyone!! He is worse than any coin dealer!

We had dinner at this Italian restaurant inside Palace Station where the food was surprisingly very good! Since I was drinking Patron while playing some black jack before dinner, I stuck with tequila and only had a margarita – sorry Ricko, no wine for dinner this time around! I know, you’re saying, how could I not have a good wine with Italian food!

Saturday:

The show picked up quite a bit today and has been pretty steadily busy all day. I had some great sales and have been very pleased with the show! From talking with other dealers, most of them said that the show started out rather slow, but then picked up quite a bit and they've had a very good show this year. The Las Vegas Coin Club is adding a second show this year in September (right after Long Beach) and I look forward to coming back here then - if not sooner!

Here is the Las Vegas Coin Club staff who have tirelessly been preparing for and working the show!

Very nice and detailed report. I hope I get to see you episode aired. Next time in Vegas, I want to stop and see what they had for sale, but based on prices I see in your photos, I may not...I could be wrong, but it looked like they were kind of high on pricing....They may think its worth a premium because their shop is on tv, but I don't think so. I like the show, but these reality tv shows are kind of a crazy form of entertainment. And I just don't get all that worked up over fishermen or pawn shop guys just because they are on tv. It might be fun to chat with them, and even buy some things if the prices are right, but I don't expect to pay extra because I am buying from a "tv star".

Well, I just returned home from the show. Between the Pawn Stars filming, the PCGS show at the Venician, the LVNS show at Palace Station, the late nights playing poker and other gambling (and eating/drinking), then the long drive home - I'm exhausted but what a great time I had! I thoroughly enjoyed my Pawn Stars experience, I bought some nice coins at the PCGS show, and sold a decent amount of coins, including my 1877 NGC MS65 RB, at the Palace Station show. The show was quite busy on Saturday, then pretty slow on Sunday which is usual, but overall it was very successful for me. The other dealers said that wholesale was booming but retail was slow for them as well.

As I mentioned earlier, the LVNS is putting on a second show in September, so I look forward to returning for another fun/successful Vegas show then!

Charmy,

Did you get a chance to play poker at the Venetian? They had a pretty good $8-$16 game last time I was there.
