What a shock!

I just received the five Lewis & Clark coinage & currency sets I ordered from the mint! The mint had stated that they would not be shipped until June 1. None of the coins have any ‘special’ finish. I like the design of the sets, it looks very impressive with the four coins, three stamps, reproduction of the Bison note, & peace medal.

 

The Bison note is marked as a specimen, and the peace medal is made from silver plated bronze.

 

The funny thing about this is that I received an e-mail from the mint last Saturday saying that they had shipped the Unc. & Proof dollars that I ordered, but I have not received them yet.

Thanks for the update. Too bad there isn't a matte finish on those nickels! I am still happy I ordered a set though.

Are the nickels in any better condition then the ones sold thru the mint in rolls and bags? With no matte finish, this is the next hope for the coins. If they are in no better condition/grade then the roll/bag issues, there would be very little to justify the $90.

The nickels are in much better condition than the ones I received in the rolls I purchased from the mint. Here are photos of the contents of the set. Keep in mind that I had to photograph through the plastic that everything is sealed in. Much of what you see as marks is really on the plastic. Overall I would have to say that the quality of the coins is very good.

 

I really like the way this set was designed, it just seems very impressive to me.

John, thank you for the pics. Really like the reverse of the fall ed. Jeff! Would have been nice had they been matte but guess you can't have everything from the mint the way we think they should be!

The other Coin and Currency Sets have all been matte nickels but this one is not. I guess the Mint figured that we would not notice!
