I would think they should be able to trace that one fairly easily. They know who auctioned it and the auction house should know who bought it. Even if that person sold it, this coin is rare enough and brings a high enough price that you WOULD know who you sold it to.

My guess is that coin, along with quite a few others stolen, are already off the market in a private collection and will not surface again for a few decades.
