envelopes or small boxes

it all depended on specific order, as coins were not sold as a 'set' but rather piecemeal -

Individual coins were in small cellophane bags. Groups of bags were stapled together, usually in sets. But, some people ordered only specific denominations or sets plus a few others. Cellophane envelopes were tucked into the little boxes and sometimes surrounded with tissue paper.
