My rant of the day.

11 posts in this topic

Many of you know I've been searching for a 1950 PF-CAM Franklin for some time. To my amazement after digging deep into Google results I find a dealer who has 2 of them for sale! Even better, it is a dealer that I previously had purchased coins so I figure my search may finally pay off.

His prices, as expected, are about 20% above recent Heritage sales history so I figure there should be some room -- or put a package deal with other coins together.

OK, sounds good right? Well can't get a deal done when he doesn't answer his phone, doesn't return phone calls, and has terse replies to email, and non-replies to follow-up email.

Reminds me of another dealer that I previously bought from who does not reply to emails (I often check out coins at night and don't want to call anyone when it is late). In this case, a well known specialist in flying eagle and indian cents, has potentially lost thousands of dollars in sales from me due to his lack of response.

What is wrong with these people?

END OF MY RANT.

On the other hand, there are plenty of outstanding responsive dealers out there getting my business since they know how to conduct business.

It's surprising that after you have done business with him in the past that he does not return emails unless you beat him up on the price the last time.

I know that the 1950 Cam Proof Franklin is a tough coin, but I'm surprised that it is that tough. I've seen them at the major shows, and I'm not really in the market market for one. They just sort of pop up. At the last Baltimore show a dealer had a complete set from 1950 to '63 in Proof Ultra CAM. They sure were pretty, but at over $20k for the complete set, which was only way he'd sell them, they should have bee darn pretty. ;)

If this dealer is who I think he is [ I could very well be wrong ]

then he'll never return your calls - and usually has his gals

take care of customers - I was so fed up with this [type of] dealer

that I told his assistant that I'd never deal with him again - and

never have.

Yes - all over a few DCAM/UCAM Franklins.

It is NOT who you are thinking of, but I think I know who you are referring to, and if correct I have not done business with him, so unable to "enjoy" your type of experience.
