Scrap gold in the form of an 18k watch?

Hope this isn't too off topic. This Ebay seller says he will melt this men's watch for scrap gold if it doesn't sell. Thought this might be of interest.

i can tell u right now, theres not enough gold in that watch to make 3,000

its 18k gold, so the seller doesnt realize you have to multiply the gold wieght by .750 for a better idea of its metal value. and if scrapping, a little less than that even.

if there is that much gold in that watch, which i doubt, then it would be worth around 1900 , but realistically closer to 1,750.

Watch collectors are much like coin collectors and will pay crazy prices for something they like. The seller feels it's a rare item. I can't tell you if he is correct.
