What do you think, will this get slabbed or...

10 posts in this topic

will it get bagged for carbon spots? Sorry if it is a simple question but would rather ask then have it sent back. So in essence, if the coin is sent in and NGC thinks that NCS may be able to conserve it, will they send it back slabbed and graded with a note saying so or would they not slab it at all?

I really want it slabbed so that nothing happens to it physically and less for the actual grade itself. I love looking at my coins all the time and would hate for me to drop it or have something else happen to it etc...

NGC will always slab a coin if it is slabbable. They will include a stick on note saying that NCS can conserve it.

They will also put a note on some coins that can't be slabbed or could be slabbed after conservation (i.e. removing PVC, AT, etc)

If you send it to NCS then, the chances are, you will get back a nice shiney, white coin.

I have submitted toned coins to NGC and asked them to remove problems, but leave the toning alone as much as possible and in one case, if the toning was harmed at all, to do no work on the coin. They were able to do the work with very minimal damage to the toning. I was very impressed.

However, once I said try not to harm the toning and the coin came back bright white in a cleaned NCS slab. mad.gifThis didn't make me happy! It was a PVC problem that I could have fixed, but I was sending a bunch to them and just included.

Overall, from what I have seen, NCS is really good at removing problems, but leaving toning alone. Having said that, I don't think there is anything they could do to your coin without also harming the toning. I'd leave it alone.

You can post this on the Ask NCS forum to see if they could remove the carbon spots without harming the toning.

Thanks for the feedback, Greg. I've been debating whether I should send in a coin with nice toning or not. This helps to settle the issue.

It could come back as a struck through error coin. I have a off center state quarter that came back with that designation on it.

Just make it VERY clear that you don't want the toning harmed!
