New toners from the GSNA show!

14 posts in this topic

I went to the GSNA show yesterday and was there from the 1 p.m. opening until about 6 p.m. I spent most of the time talking to TomB who has a table at the show. As usual, Tom had some absolutely gorgeous toned coins for sale, including a stunning 1944 Merc and a very nice MS-67 1913 Buffalo in an old PCGS holder that had light iridescent gold centers and a wide ring of beautiful iridescent ice blue extending from the rims toward the center where it blends into the gold. He also had a bunch of nicely toned Roosevelt dimes that caught my eye.

I knew the Merc and Buffalo were going home with me as soon as I saw them, so I asked Tom to put them on the side for me until later. But all day, while sitting there talking to Tom, I kept looking at those Roosevelt’s. Finally, I could take it no longer, I had to buy some of those dimes!

I spent last night, and most of today trying to get photos that show just how nice the toning is on these coins, but this is the best I could do. Believe me, they are MUCH nicer in hand.

I was also able to pick up a very nice MS-65 thick Norse medal in an NGC holder. I had never seen a Norse medal that appealed to me until I saw this one as I walked past Don Hosier’s table. It is white with a light gold tinge, and its luster is excellent, much better than what is normally seen on these medals! In fact while I was looking at it, Don even commented that he doubted another could be found with better luster.

I'll be going back to the show tomorrow for a few hours and hope to meet some of you there.

John,

The reverse of the Merc is awesome! That is hard to rival. The Buffalo is also a gorgeous example. There are some pleasing Roosies there but, they don't even come close to the Merc and Buff.

The Norse medal is buff. It is a man's man medal. grin.gif I really like it alot. It has substance, history and intrigue all over it.

Great buys. I certainly like your eye, John. 893applaud-thumb.gif

John,

I'll be there at the opening tomorrow. I hope to meet you.

It looks like you bought some of Tom's famous "I've got a whole bunch of Roosevelts at PCGS and when they come back I might actually sell some of them"! grin.gif

John, I think you broke my heart in buying that Merc. She's beautiful, isn't she?

By the way, John brought some tremendous Buffs with him to the show and his icon coin is monster! smile.gif

Hoot,

Sounds like that coffee is going to cost you some Loot. Mine had a problem this morning after a thunderstorm, and I had to re-boot.

Hoot,

Next time you spill a drink on your kbd, dry it as much as you can with a cloth. Then, use a blow dryer to dry up the inside.

Let's hope that the unevaporated stuff in your beverage doesn't encrustate your fine circuitry.

I forgot to comment on that Norse medal the first post. shocked.gif That piece is a real brute! smile.gif It is about the nicest looking Norse you can hope to see, with tremendously clean surfaces and surprisingly good luster. Really a terrific piece.
