Interesting difference in the way Teletrade images coins for the rainbow sale.

In the two links below (same coin), it's interesting how the images differ.

24-S PCGS MS63 Peace (non-rainbow)

Same coin two months earlier in rainbow sale.

The difference in the label and the color of the coin are amazing. I had always believed the Teletrade images were taken in a relatively uniform fashion.

Yeah and somebody lost 80 some odd bucks because of it. This falls along the lines of never getting a second chance to make a first impression. I can never make heads or tails out of 99% of the auctions I come across. Because most collectors buy blind from those auctions and end up with inferior coins, they deserve what they get. Every coin can't be nice, brilliant and beautiful! Stakes are very high that most of those hidden bought coins are low quality for the descriptions they receive.

Sell a coin, give an honest detail description. I want the buyer to know what he's getting. It's a shame to the hobby when most folks over hype their coins just to get rid of them.

Maybe it's just my monitor, but they look nearly identical to me. The former is a bit brighter than the latter, which also has a bit of a pink cast, but otherwise looks like the same coin. confused-smiley-013.gif

Leo, it looks to me like the coin was purchased at the $80 higher price and returned, and was subsuquently resold. It's not a coin I'm interested in, and I'm not maligning either pic or Teletrade, because I have no idea what the coin looks like in hand. I was really surprised however that the pictures were different, as I expected Teletrade would use the same lighting and same setup for each coin knowing they image as many coins as they do.

Hoot, on my monitor it almost looks like one image is greyscale and the other color. The label is light blue in the image taken for the rainbow sale, and is light grey in the regular sale pic. I wonder if they use a different kind of lighting for the coins they image in the rainbow sale, knowing they're trying to capture color? If so, I would think the "rainbow" style pic would always be better received as it probably looks more like the coin in hand. It's pretty trivial. Still, I think I'll ask. I always assumed the images were pretty uniform.

I agree with Hoot. They look the same to me.

That being said...I guess Teletrade has people who have NEVER seen a rainbow because I can't see anything about that coin in EITHER photo that even remotely resembles a rainbow. laugh.gif

This is an example of where NCS could kick in and do a pretty good job of making this coin more acceptable.

Like put a RAINBOW tone on it! 27_laughing.gif

yuk and yuk

i must be colorblind and my speciality is not peace dollars

but i really do not see the rainbow of this coin

i think myself if i was one of the graders at pcgs i would have punched in bodybag for the grade just based on this scan

sight seen might be different 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

as to me this $100 coin is ugly for a peace dollar and is not market acceptable to me to be put into an ms63 pcgs holder or any pcgs holder

Yeah, they are a bit different. The coin on the left just has more contrast added.

I believe Don is right about the coin being resold. I had a 1970 Half PF69 DCAM graded by ICG and it sold the first time for $70.00 dollars and then was returned and sold again for a lesser price. Maybe the buyer when he received it in hand noticed that it wasn't a Rainbow as stated and returned it. Just a Guess.
