Man - you guys are vicious on this side of the street! wink.gif

The coins are raw, so I was able to shine a light right on them, hence the colors came out rather brilliant and the detail rather sharp. The perpetrator of the toning turned out to be a wooden box holding a collection of Morgans. Each of the spaces for the dollars had a round peg with a piece of felt propping ou the dollars slightly, hence the resulting coloration on the revereses. Would these be considered NT? Dunno, and may never know. The 1898O is about an MS63, with the 1886, perhaps a notch or two down. Certainly not thinking about grading these bad girls but they'll look nice in a Capitol holder of their own smile.gif

How long and what were the environmental conditions in which the coins were stored?

As I understand it, the collection was stored in a closet for over 25 years - being taken out periodically, but the coins were not disturbed from their holders. These two examples were the best toned from the lot. There were other coins, but those were toned grey or brown, and they were disbursed in a lot sale.

Don't be a stranger

Im not - I'm usually in the rafters somewhere - just need to pop in more often. I have over 30 dimes in to NGC for grading - you'll be hearing from me soon on those wink.gif

Here's a little update to this thread - As I had mentioned, the two Morgan dollars that I imaged at the top of the thread had come from a private collection and were mounted in kind of a strange holder - well - below is that holder. It's designed to put dollar sized coins into the individual slots and then display them as a picture ona a wall. The holder was obviously hand made, and it's kinda nifty looking. I thought some of you might enjoy seeing it.
