I don’t want to boar anyone, but…

A couple of weeks ago I went to see a coin dealer I know who has a shop only about 5 mins. from where I work. I wanted to see if he had any early U.S. commems or buffalo nickels that I needed as I have bought a number of very nice examples from him in the past. Well, no luck with the commems or buffalos this time, but after talking to him for a while I noticed a large box of world coin mint and proof sets that was on the floor under a table.

While going though the sets I found a 5 coin 1970 first year set from Bermuda. All the coins were in the MS-65 to MS-66 range. The 5c, 10c, 25c, & 50c coins are minted of nickel and were untoned, but the bronze cent was toned in shades of red, purple, green, & gold. I bought the set for $4. Here is a photo of the cent.

The coin is much nicer in hand than the photo depicts, but after numerous tries, I just can’t seem to capture the color as it is seen on the coin in real life.

I think I have a very good idea of what the colors look like. thumbsup2.gif

That would be a really cool looking coin if it wasn't for the fugly queen on one side. We need animal designs like this on our coins!

Greg,

I agree with you on both counts! wink.gif

Actually, The only depiction of a British monarch on a coin that I really like is that of King George V.

That's a cool coin, John! I also hope to see more in the way of animal designs on our coins, but they'll likely be like the proposed Bald Eagle commem. Heck, what about the turkey that Franlkin was so taken with (and which I'm so taken with) or the prairy dog, or the American burying beetle, or a thousand others? Great opportunities abound.

As for the queen, that's one of her better portraits! 893whatthe.gif
