Where Can I Find a Wooden Display Cabinet ?

17 posts in this topic

I did a search and didn't find a thread that addresses this.

I am looking for a wooden cabinet to put my coins in. Maybe with felt lined drawers. I have them in 2x2's and then stacked in cigar boxes. It is not the nicest presentation. I have found a few custom cabinets but didn't like them enough to spend the big bucks.

If I could find a jewelry box, watch box, pen box something that could be converted.

How does everyone else store/display their treasure?

I am a coin newbie.

While I admire the idea of a coin display, it makes the collection an instant target for burglaries and/or nefarious visitors. I personally recommend a large TL30 rated safe with a display inside. Gone are the days when you could leave coins and jewelry out in plain site. If you insist on a coin display, some manufacturers still make oak and pine coin cabinets. Your local coin dealer might have some good information. Otherwise, the older coin cabinets can cost upwards of $1000, not to mention moving charges.

And you better be careful with a wooden coin cabinet, because oils from the wood might tarnish or harm the coins, under certain conditions.

I should have a safe for them but they are not rare. Lots of silver eagles mostly and Morgan's paid about melt value.

Would storing them in mylar and then setting them in a felt lined wood box really affect their condition?

I thought about the "nefarious visitor" and would most likely store my cabinet out of sight and just bring it out to show off the stash.

That is exactly... EXACTLY! what I had in mind. Tired of it yet? Got an extra?

Very nice cabinet!

How much to build another one?

Thanks for the mention, Carl! smile.gif

These are not traditional cabinets, but we have designed some pretty cool features into the showcases so that you can view both the obverse and reverse of NGC/PCGS coins, while keeping them relatively secure.

There is a desktop model and a wall-mount/shelf-top/table-top model, available for order now in various sizes and woods. We are awaiting the manufacture of several custom components, so the first units will not ship until the end of July.

Here is a few small pictures - you can get all the details and see larger photos at http://www.solid-craft.com

I built this for my coin collection. I designed it for slabs but you could use anything you want.

Sure, I could whip one of those up is say ... two or three years. shocked.gif
