Help requested 1915 California Panama-California SCD HK-426

7 posts in this topic

First off I will state.......my images are not the best :(

And my SCD is the one on the right(toned)

I picked this on up recently, its raw and thought to submit because I thought it had nice toning. When I brought it home and looked closer I saw what at FIRST appeared to be cleaning scratches. But rotating the coin and looking closer it does not go on the devices, only the fields of both sides.

So then I did further looking and noticed that most if not all examples come this way.

My question is threefold.......

1)Has mine been cleaned and will body bag?

2)Is it typical that this particular SCD is known to have deep die polish lines running both ways?

3) if it slabs what grade would you guess and its value?

This is a link to an auction that shows the apparent lines on the surface.

I'm not saying mine is of this caliber but side by side examples that I posted below looks like it a nice looking Silver SCD HK-426

I see a lot of the same "scratches" on the reverse of the slabbed one. Especially the group of lines going left to right from the first A in Panama. I think yours would be polish lines. Value, unknown.

Sweet toning though.

If the lines are raised then they are die polish marks.

Die polish marks can be multi directional.

I prefer your toned example over the slabbed white one, as the toning looks legit and is the same as other silver SCD's I've seen.

Yours should grade and is finer on the high points on the obverse.

Look at the brim of the hat and the fist holding the pick axe... See how flat the MS65 example is in these areas?

I'd see no reason why yours couldn't be in a MS66 holder.

Thanks,

I was wondering so I decided to break out the dinolite and the images show

that they are die scratches.

I'm going to look up the POP report and maybe this one is worth grading
