Some examples of PCI encapsulated ASE toners. Please note that the colors are not crazy in hue. That comes from over saturating the photos.

 

Not all of the patterns are wild, but I vouch for the seller of the linked coins that he doesn't juice his images. The images are relatively accurate.

I would think that if the coins were gassed in the holder, they would develop this kind of circular toning.

 

Then why are there large areas that are untoned and/or gaps in the rings of toning in some examples; if the entire coin were gassed, wouldn't you expect to see more uniform toning throughout, encompassing more of the coin?
