i see that the pops are really quite low 893whatthe.gif for these unusual flowerred.gif coins

even as a type coin it is a really great coin! and really historical, the first coin to have with the motto >>>in God we trust<<< on the coin thumbsup2.gif

everyone should own one shocked.gif and maybe 893scratchchin-thumb.gif with the high cost of the cent it would be better to eliminate the cent and make a new two cent coin thumbsup2.gif893applaud-thumb.gifthumbsup2.gif

for me the sleepers are gem and higher proof coins that have great eye appeal brown or red brown with clean clear crisp mirrors and not dull

even the more available overall better looking later date proof two cents would be a really good coin to own if you can find one again in red brown or brown gem proof with decent mirrors and eye appeal this would be uncommon to find but with enough looking it can be accomplished

i would say in ngc/pcgs proof65 red brown a nice solid for the grade coin with little to no spots with above average eye appeal and great surfaces deep mirrors and good contrast between the devices and fields for around 893scratchchin-thumb.gif $800 and a proof65 brown coin as per the above qualifiers 893scratchchin-thumb.gif$700

would you be interested in a proof two cent piece for your collection? flowerred.gif

do you currently have any proof two cent coins in your collection? thumbsup2.gif

why are the proofs such orphan/unwanted coins? tongue.gif

any other comments? flowerred.gif

They are quite rare... So for the average collector they have probably never owned one or sometimes even seen one in person... just a thought

I would tend to disagree with part of what you wrote, or at least adjust it somewhat...

Certainly, 2c PF's with crisp, clear mirrors are nice. But -- BUT -- I don't think BN pieces are sleepers unless they have attractive colors beyond an original brown coloration.

Likewise, I fancy RB pieces that still have a majority of original mint "red" bloom to it.

To me, however, the real sleepers are those specimens that still retain 95% (or better) of their original mint "red" color. PF or MS -- doesn't matter. Those are super tough to find.

(BTW, I write "red" because we all know that the color isn't actually red but a reddish-orange-bronze tint.)

One of my dream pieces is to own a fully original red 1864 SM specimen in PF64 or better.

I've been looking to add one to my type set for some time now, but I haven't found the "right" one yet. These coins in cameo really are very attractive and rare, and usually way more than my wallet will allow.

Actually, I haven't liked ANY of the ones I've seen that are designated cameo. I think this is because the the fields never can get black enough relative to the devices to have the kind of contrast that you can see in silver, gold and even some nickel specimens.

BTW, this holds true for me for the small cents too. I simply am more impressed with the contrast in the silver and gold coins.
